Bharti Airtel share price was trading lower on Wednesday, May 20, even after the telecom major launched its new ‘Priority Postpaid’ feature, which aims to leverage the 5G network to deliver faster and more reliable services to customers.
During the pre-market hours, the shares of Bharti Airtel were trading 2% higher, but the stock lost steam after the opening bell. The shares were trading 0.32% lower in the early market session.
In the NSE filing, Bharti Airtel said that the new ‘Priority Postpaid’ feature is built for busy customers whose workflow depends on uninterrupted connectivity, use of entertainment, or online collaboration in any form.
To roll out this feature, Airtel had to upgrade its 5G network with advanced capabilities of slicing technology, which makes the systems more efficient, creating more capacity, and providing the capability to use this capacity in a targeted manner for the delivery of a superior experience to the priority customers.
“It provides a superior, more reliable, and dependable experience to our customers — whether they are attending a client call in traffic, or streaming at a packed concert, or booking a cab in a crowded market,” said Shashwat Sharma, the managing director and chief executive officer of Airtel.
As per the official announcement, Airtel customers will be able to use the new Priority service on any 5G SA-enabled smartphone with the latest software upgrades.
The company also disclosed that the ‘Priority Postpaid’ feature is available to all the telecom provider’s postpaid plans, and the existing customers will be able to use the benefits effective immediately.
However, this feature is only for the postpaid customers, and in case an Airtel user has a prepaid plan and is looking for priority features, then they will have to upgrade to a postpaid plan to avail the benefits.
Bharti Airtel shares closed 1.27% lower at ₹1,913.50 after Tuesday’s trading session, compared to ₹1,938.10 at the previous market close, according to NSE data. The company announced its update after the market operating hours on May 19.
Shares of Bharti Airtel have delivered more than 270% returns on their investments in the last five years, over 137% gains in the last three years, and more than 5% returns in the past one year period, as per the exchange data.
Although so far in 2026, the company’s stock has lost 9.4% year-to-date, Bharti Airtel shares have risen 3.5% in the last one month, and were trading 6.8% higher over the last five trading sessions on NSE.
The telecom company’s market capitalisation (m-cap) was at ₹11.64 lakh crore as of Tuesday’s stock market close. On Monday, Bharti Airtel’s m-cap crossed HDFC Bank’s m-cap, fueling the company to become the second-largest listed stock in the Indian market.
