In a regulatory filing, the telecommunications services company stated that deployment spans 77 districts and provides high-speed connectivity to more than 28.6 million customers from cities, towns, and remote rural villages in the Upper North region.

The company stated that its customers across all the districts of Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, and Jammu & Kashmir will benefit directly from this enhanced footprint.

Specifically, Bharti Airtel deployed more than 1,066 new 5G sites in Punjab, over 954 in Haryana, more than 276 in Himachal Pradesh, and over 619 in Jammu & Kashmir.

This will enable high-speed 5G access for citizens, students, micro entrepreneurs, enterprises, and government institutions in both urban and rural markets, the company said.

Bharti Airtel is activating more than eight new 5G sites daily, it said, adding that users have been enjoying seamless streaming, rapid downloads, uninterrupted remote working and learning, and dependable digital payments, regardless of location.

Commenting on the development, Anupam Arora, CEO – Upper North, Bharti Airtel, said: “Data demand across Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu Kashmir is surging, and we are staying ahead by relentlessly strengthening our network. These 2,900+ new 5G sites mean faster speeds, wider coverage, and a more reliable experience for over 28.6 million customers.”

“Our continued investments underscore Airtel’s commitment to bridging connectivity gaps and powering the region’s digital transformation with a future-ready network,” he added.

On June 8, the Bombay High Court quashed the central government's 2012 decision to levy a one-time spectrum charge for spectrum held above 6.2 megahertz (MHz) from 2008 onwards.

A bench of Justices Manish Pitale and Shreeram Shirsat also set aside the demand notices issued by the centre seeking recovery of the one-time spectrum charge (OTSC) while noting that the Union government has not been able to show any source of power to issue such a decision and the consequent demand notices.

Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea (Vi), in their plea, argued the centre has no power to impose such an OTSC and that, too, retrospectively under the provisions of the Telegraph Act.
