Bharat Dynamics inks ₹802 crore contract with Defence Ministry for satellite smart anti-airfield weapons

As per a Press Information Bureau (PIB) report, the contract was signed for the procurement of 160 Satellite Smart Anti-Airfield Weapons (SAT-SAAW), along with associated equipment for the Indian Air Force (IAF) under the Buy (Indian - Indigenously Designed, Developed and Manufactured) category.

The delivery of SAT-SAAW is scheduled between 2027-2028 and 2028-2029, the press release further stated.

SAT-SAAW is an air-to-ground precision-guided glide bomb that can be launched from platforms like Jaguar, Hawk & Su-30 MKI, and has the capability to neutralise enemy airfields from a long stand-off range, the MoD added.

“Indigenously designed and developed by DRDO, the system will have an indigenous content of 60% along with indigenisation of sub-systems like Initial Measurement Unit, Long Impact Delay Fuse and Twin Store Carrier to further boost Aatmanirbharta in defence,” it added.

Bharat Dynamics Q1 results

Bharat Dynamics posted a 547% year-on-year (YoY) rise in its standalone net profits to ₹119 crore in the first quarter of the 2026-27 financial year (Q1 FY27), compared with ₹18 crore net profit in the corresponding quarter of the previous year.

On a sequential basis, the company’s net profits advanced 5% to its June quarter levels, compared to ₹113 crore in the fourth quarter of the fiscal year ended 2025-26.

The company’s strong growth in profit for the period under review came due to a 130% gain in its revenue from core operations to ₹572 crore in the June quarter, compared to ₹248 crore in the same period last year.

Bharat Dynamics stock performance

Shares of BDL closed 0.60% lower at ₹1,161 apiece on the National Stock Exchange (NSE) on Wednesday, September 23. However, the development was announced after the market closed.

The scrip has advanced 2% but has fallen nearly 15% over the month. It has declined 22% on a year-to-date (YTD) basis.

While the stock hit a 52-week high of ₹1,654 per equity share on September 22, 2025, it touched a year’s low of ₹1,086 per unit on March 30, 2026.
