Raksha Bandhan holiday: Banks open or closed today? Check if your state has a holiday on August 28

Banks are closed on Friday in several states on account of various festivals and occasions, including Rakshabandhan, a popular Hindu festival that celebrates the relationship between brothers and sisters.

According to the Reserve Bank of India's bank holiday calendar, banks are closed for Raksha Bandhan in Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Uttarakhand, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh.

In Sikkim, branches are shut for Pang-Lhabsol, a festival celebrated to honour Mount Kanchenjunga as the state's guardian deity.

In Jammu and Kashmir, the holiday is observed on account of the Friday following Eid-i-Milad-ul-Nabi.

Kerala is observing a bank holiday for Sree Narayana Guru Jayanthi and Ayyankali Jayanthi.

Sree Narayana Guru Jayanthi, celebrated on Chathayam day during the Onam season, marks the birth anniversary of social reformer Narayana Guru, who fought against the caste system.

Ayyankali Jayanthi, observed on August 28 every year, commemorates the birth anniversary of social reformer Ayyankali.

The RBI's bank holiday calendar varies across states, with closures based on local festivals and occasions.

While physical bank branches remain closed in these states, digital banking services such as internet banking, mobile banking and ATMs will continue to be available.

Banks will remain open on Saturday, August 29, which is the fifth Saturday of the month.

According to the RBI holiday calendar, banks will function as usual on Friday in Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Goa, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Odisha, Punjab, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Tripura and Chandigarh.
