The Forbes Billionaire Index 2024, released earlier this week, showed a substantial jump in the share of young billionaires. There are a total of 25 youngsters – those aged 33 or below – whose net worth has crossed the $1 billion mark. The youngest among them is 19-year-old Livia Voigt.

Voigt, a resident of Brazil, belongs to one of the country’s notable business families. Despite being a college student, she has featured into the elite club where the average age of billionaires stands at 67.

As per the Forbes’ list, Voigt’s net worth stood at $1.1 billion, which is equivalent to around ₹9,100 crore.

Here are 5 things to know about Livia Voigt

  • Voigt’s net worth is derived from her stake in WEG, the largest electoral motors manufacturer in the Latin America region.

  • She is the single largest individual shareholder in the company, which was co-founded by her grandfather Werner Ricargo Voigt with late business magnates Eggon Joao da Silva and Gealdo Werninghaus.

  • Voigt has leaped ahead of Italy’s Clement Del Vecchio, who belongs to the family which founded the world’s largest eyeglasses company EssilorLuxottica. Vecchio is the second youngest billionaire in the Forbes’ list for this year, and he is only two months older than Voigt. However, his net worth stands higher at $4.8 billion.

  • Voigt, despite being the single largest shareholder in WEG, is not part of the company’s board. She is currently a student, pursuing a bachelor’s degree in a Brazilian college, reports said.

  • Apart from Voigt, her sister Dora Voigt de Assis has also featured in the list of youngest billionaires. The latter, aged 26, has a net worth of $1.1 billion. She completed her college education in architecture in 2020.

Notably, the Forbes’ list of billionaires released this year features 2,781 billionaires, 141 more than last year and 26 more than the record set in 2021. “They’re richer than ever, worth $14.2 trillion in aggregate, up by $2 trillion from 2023 and $1.1 trillion above the previous record, also set in 2021,” a release noted.

India is the third highest contributor to the Forbes list with 200 billionaires, with Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani emerging as the richest Indian. Globally, he was ranked as the ninth richest individual with net assets of $116 billion.
