InterGlobe Enterprises, the parent company of IndiGo, and US-based Archer Aviation will introduce an all-electric air taxi service in India in 2026, that will carry passengers from Connaught Place in Delhi to Gurugram in Haryana in just 7 minutes. Similar services will also be launched in Mumbai and Bengaluru.

As per the deal, Archer Aviation will provide 200 electric vertical takeoffs and landing (VTOL) aircraft, each having 12 rotors, worth around USD 1 billion. The seven-minute flight is likely to cost around ₹2,000 to ₹3,000 per person from Connaught Place to Gurugram, Archer Aviation executives told PTI.

Archer Aviation Founder and CEO Adam Goldstein said discussions are underway with the United States regulator, Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), and the certification process for its aircraft is at an advanced stage.

The certification is expected to be completed by 2025, and once that is in place, the certification process will be initiated by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).

"Initially, Archer Aviation will be focusing on Delhi, Mumbai and Bengaluru. With its flight, the duration will be around 7 minutes from Connaught Place in Delhi to Gurugram and the cost could be ₹2,000 to ₹3,000. In a car, for the 27-kilometre distance, it would take around 90 minutes and the cost would be about ₹1,500," he said.

The five-seater Midnight aircraft, which will have six battery packs that can fully charge in 30-40 minutes, will accommodate the pilot and four passengers, said Nikhil Goel, Chief Commercial Officer of Archer Aviation.

The US-based company is also in talks with municipal corporations about infrastructure and flight operations.
