IndiGo has introduced a new entry-level "IndiGo Lite" fare for economy passengers travelling with only cabin baggage.

The airline said the fare will be offered on all non-stop domestic and international flights and will be applicable for one-way, round-trip and multi-city bookings for both adult and child passengers.

Under the Lite fare, passengers will be entitled to carry only a cabin bag of up to 7 kg and will receive an auto-assigned seat at no extra charge.

Travellers can purchase additional services, including check-in baggage, preferred seats, meals and priority services, separately if required. The add-ons can be bought up to one hour before departure through IndiGo's website or at the airport.

How to book IndiGo Lite

The new fare under ‘IndiGo Lite’ will be available for bookings from July 1 through the airline’s direct channels, including its website, mobile application and contact centre, for travel starting July 15.

Passengers travelling under the Lite fare will continue to earn and redeem BluChip loyalty points, the airline said.

"Designed for customers who travel light and would like to pay only for the services they need, IndiGo Lite is another step towards building a strong, fit-for-purpose product portfolio," IndiGo Chief Strategy Officer Aloke Singh said.

He said the new fare reflects the airline's effort to respond to changing customer preferences while making air travel more affordable.

IndiGo's fare portfolio now comprises Saver, Flexi Plus, IndiGo UpFront, IndiGoStretch, Stretch+ and Lite.

Airlines targeting price-conscious travellers

The launch comes days after Air India announced a new "Basic" economy fare without complimentary meals, offering a lower-cost option for price-conscious travellers.

Under the Basic fare, Air India flyers will receive a 15-kg checked baggage allowance, a 7-kg cabin baggage allowance and complimentary tea or coffee.

However, meals will not be included in the ticket price.

According to Air India, the new fare is entirely optional and customers can continue to book tickets under the existing Value, Classic and Flex categories, all of which include complimentary meals and a range of bundled benefits.

The fare is currently available only through Air India's direct booking channels, including its website, mobile app, contact centre and airport ticketing offices.
