The open-ended fund-of-funds scheme is designed to provide exposure to international equity markets through a feeder-fund structure, investing primarily in the BlackRock Advantage World Equity Fund, an actively managed global equity strategy.

The fund requires a minimum initial investment of $5,000, while additional investments can be made with a minimum amount of $1,000. According to the company, around 90-100% of the scheme's investments will be allocated to units of the underlying BlackRock Advantage World Equity Fund.

How will the fund invest?

The underlying fund has a track record of more than eight years and invests in companies across developed markets, including the United States, Europe and Japan. It aims to provide exposure to global companies, sectors and long-term growth themes, allowing investors to diversify beyond Indian equities.

For investors whose portfolios are concentrated in domestic stocks, international equity exposure can provide access to businesses and industries that may have a limited representation in Indian markets. However, global diversification does not eliminate market risk, and returns can also be affected by currency movements.

Why is JioBlackRock launching the fund through GIFT City?

The launch expands JioBlackRock's international investment offerings through GIFT City, India's International Financial Services Centre (IFSC), which provides a route for eligible investors to access overseas markets under applicable regulations.

Sid Swaminathan, managing director and chief executive officer of JioBlackRock Asset Management, said the launch marked a step towards widening access to global investing opportunities.

The company said the fund would allow investors to complement their domestic portfolios with exposure to international markets as part of their long-term wealth creation strategy.

What should investors consider before investing?

While the fund offers a route to diversify across global equities, it remains an equity-oriented investment and is subject to market volatility. Overseas investments also carry currency risk, while the performance of the feeder fund will depend largely on the underlying fund's returns, expenses and applicable currency movements.

The minimum investment of $5,000 may also make the scheme more suitable for investors who have sufficient investible surplus and are comfortable with international equity exposure.

Investors should review the scheme's offer documents, fees, risk factors, eligibility requirements and applicable tax treatment before investing.
