Investors planning to withdraw their money before the bonds' scheduled eight-year maturity should note that the redemption date and the request-submission deadline are different. They must submit their requests within the prescribed window to qualify for premature redemption.

SGB premature redemption dates in November 2026

According to the RBI's premature redemption calendar, four SGB tranches are scheduled for early redemption in November 2026.

2020-21 Series VIIINovember 18, 2026October 17–November 9, 2026

2021-22 Series INovember 25, 2026October 23–November 16, 2026

Which SGB redemption deadlines are still open?

As of October 30, 2026, investors holding the 2021-22 Series VII bonds have missed the request-submission deadline of October 23, even though the redemption date is November 2.

However, investors holding the other three eligible tranches can still submit their requests:

November 9: Last date to submit requests for 2020-21 Series VIII and Series II.
November 16: Last date to submit requests for 2021-22 Series I.

Investors should not confuse the redemption date with the last date for submitting the request. Missing the prescribed window means they cannot avail themselves of redemption on that particular date.

When can investors redeem Sovereign Gold Bonds prematurely?

SGBs have an eight-year maturity period, but investors can opt for premature redemption after completing five years from the date of issue. This facility is available on the interest payment dates specified by the RBI.

The redemption amount is determined using the simple average of the closing price of 999-purity gold for the three preceding business days, as published by the India Bullion and Jewellers Association (IBJA).

How can investors submit SGB premature redemption requests?

Investors can submit their premature redemption requests through the bank from which they purchased the bonds. Those holding SGBs in demat form can approach their depository participant.

What should SGB investors check?

Before applying for premature redemption, investors should verify their bond series, the applicable redemption date and the last date for submitting the request.
