Buyers should remember that the final jewellery bill may be higher because of making charges, wastage charges and applicable GST. Actual jewellery prices may also vary between jewellers and cities.
Gold and silver prices vary slightly across cities because of local taxes, transportation costs and other market factors. Here are the latest indicative rates for major Indian cities on October 30, 2026.
The decline in gold and silver prices comes at an important time for India's jewellery market. Dhanteras, which falls on Friday, November 6, is traditionally considered an auspicious occasion to purchase gold, silver, utensils and other valuables. Diwali will be celebrated on Sunday, November 8.
The latest price correction could encourage consumers who had postponed their purchases because of elevated gold prices. However, buyers may still be cautious about committing to large purchases, particularly with precious metal prices continuing to fluctuate.
Buyers should also distinguish between purchasing physical jewellery and investing in gold or silver for portfolio diversification, as making charges and resale deductions can affect returns.
Despite elevated gold prices and recent market corrections, industry experts expect consumer interest in precious metals to remain resilient during the festive and upcoming wedding seasons.
Commenting on the demand outlook, Samit Guha, Managing Director and CEO of MMTC-PAMP, said: "This festive season, consumer interest for gold and silver, especially bars and coins, will continue to remain resilient due to the deep cultural relevance these precious metals hold among Indian households. We anticipate that the demand will also be supported by purchases ahead of the upcoming wedding season since gold and silver represent prosperity and auspicious beginnings apart from bringing long-term value."
He added that elevated gold prices are likely to encourage buyers to opt for smaller-denomination bars and coins, making precious metal purchases more accessible.
Guha also expects investment preferences to diversify, particularly among younger consumers, with products and services such as digital gold gaining greater relevance because of their convenience.
For Dhanteras buyers, the latest decline may offer some relief, but the decision to purchase should depend on individual requirements, budget and the intended purpose of buying gold or silver.
