US markets today: Dow, S&P 500, Nasdaq futures indicate positive opening; US-Iran negotiations in focus

US markets today: Equity futures on Wall Street indicate a positive opening on Monday, August 10, as investors focus on developments in West Asia, key company earnings of the June quarter and buying momentum from the Asian markets.

Latest media reports suggest that US President Donald Trump has signalled that America is ‘semi-negotiating’ with Iran for the conflict in West Asia amid the allegedly increasing economic pressure on the Gulf country.

“We are only semi-negotiating with them. We are just watching Iran with its huge inflation and the fact they have no money,” Trump told Axios in a telephone interview.

Investing.com data showed that Dow Jones futures were trading 0.14% lower at 54,071 points ahead of the opening bell on August 10, indicating a flat but positive opening on Monday, when compared to the previous US market close.

The S&P 500 index futures were trading 0.02% lower at 7,778.75 points ahead of Monday’s opening bell, indicating around a 20-point higher opening on August 10, as per the exchange data.

The tech-heavy Nasdaq 100 index futures were trading 0.14% higher at 29,879 points ahead of the Wall Street open on August 10, indicating a more than 150-point higher opening on Monday’s market, in comparison to the previous equity market close.

Key things to watch before US market opens

US markets recap

Wall Street indices ended higher after their trading session on Friday, August 7, as investors analysed the drop in US Treasury yields, tech-sector rebound, and the fall in unemployment rates of the US economy, while the payroll data showed a 23,000 decline in jobs in July 2026.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed 0.28% higher at 54,036.93 points after the trading session on Friday last week, in comparison to 53,885.10 points at the previous equity market close, as per MarketWatch data.

The S&P 500 index ended 0.62% higher at 7,757.64 points after the trading session on August 7, compared to 7,709.96 points at the previous US stock market close, as per the exchange data.

The tech-heavy Nasdaq 100 index surged to close 1.19% higher at 29,722.30 points after the trading session on Friday, compared to 29,373.33 points at the previous equity market close on Wall Street.

US stocks to watch on August 10

Intel: Intel shares were trading over 4% lower during the pre-market hours after the company proposed a $15 billion underwritten public offering of common stock. The tech firm plans to use the net proceeds from the offering for general corporate purposes, which may include, but are not limited to, capital expenditures and working capital.
Barrick Mining Corp.: Barrick Mining shares declined around 5.7% during the pre-market hours on the NYSE ahead of the opening bell on Monday, August 10, as investors focused on the company’s June quarter earnings update.

As per the official announcement, the company’s June quarter net earnings declined 24% sequentially to $1,217 million, from $1,602 million in the quarter ended March 2026. On a year-on-year basis, the net earnings advanced 50% from $811 million in the June quarter of 2025.

Rocket Lab Corp.: Rocket Lab Corp shares were trading more than 3% higher during the pre-market trading session on Nasdaq ahead of the opening bell on August 10, as investors awaited the company’s June quarter earnings report.

As per Nasdaq data, the company is expected to release its earnings report during the post-market hours on Monday.

National Energy Services Reunited Corp.: National Energy Services shares were trading more than 10% higher during the pre-market hours on Nasdaq ahead of the opening bell on Monday’s market, as the company is set to release its June quarter earnings report.
Key earnings stocks: Stocks like Simon Property Group, Ferguson Enterprises, AST SpaceMobile, Joint Stock Company, Axsome Therapeutics, and Alcon are among other companies which are set to announce their June quarter results on August 10, 2026.
Chip & tech stocks: Chipmaking and technology sector stocks like SK Hynix ADR, Nvidia, Broadcom, AMD, Qualcomm, Taiwan Semiconductor (TSMC), Texas Instruments, ASML Holdings, and Oracle are set to be in focus on Monday’s market session, amid the positive momentum cues from the Asian markets.

Oil prices jump to $85/barrel

Global crude oil prices surged to above $85 per barrel (bbl) during Monday’s market session, as commodity market investors focused on US President Donald Trump’s signal of increasing the economic pressure on Iran.

However, reports also suggest that Iran has retained its stance that the country is not engaged in talks with the United States.

Investing.com data showed that global benchmark Brent crude oil prices surged 1.8% to their intraday high of $85.09 per bbl on Monday’s market, in comparison to $83.55 per bbl at the previous commodity market close.

At 4:50 pm (IST), Brent crude oil prices were trading 1.3% higher at $84.60 per bbl on August 10.
