US equity futures on Wall Street indicate a mixed open on Friday, September 4, as investors focused on the positive momentum from the Asian markets, elevated oil prices, and geopolitical uncertainties from West Asia.

Dow Jones futures were trading 0.08% lower at 53,701 points ahead of the opening bell on September 4, indicating a marginally higher opening in comparison to the previous Wall Street close, according to Investing.com data.

The exchange data also showed that the S&P 500 index futures were trading 0.18% lower at 7,739 points ahead of the market open on Friday, indicating a marginally lower opening on September 4.

Nasdaq 100 futures were trading 0.08% higher at 29,555 points ahead of the US market opening, indicating a 73-point higher opening when compared to the previous equity market close.

US stocks to watch on Friday, September 4

AMC Entertainment: Movie theatre company AMC Entertainment shares surged 5% during the pre-market hours on NYSE, as the company CEO criticised Robinhood Markets for launching stock tokens of AMC and others.
Robinhood Markets: Robinhood Markets shares were trading 2% lower during the pre-market trading session on September 4, as investors were focused on the criticisms from AMC Entertainment CEO Adam Aron.
Rare earth mineral stocks: Rare earth mineral stocks like USA Rare Earth and Critical Metals both surged around 4% during the pre-market hours, while MP Materials and Energy Fuels surged 3% ahead of the opening bell, as investors focused on reports of Chinese companies pausing shipments to the United States amid geopolitical concerns.

The Asian equity market indices rebounded during the trading session on Friday, September 4, closing higher as investors focused on the strong momentum cues from Wall Street against the backdrop of easing US Treasury yields and cooling fears of potential interest rate hikes in the upcoming US Federal Reserve meeting.

MarketWatch data showed that Japan’s Nikkei 225 ended 1.26% higher, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng ended 1.74%, India’s SENSEX ended 0.48% higher, South Korea’s KOSPI closed 1.64%, and Singapore’s FTSE closed 0.94% higher on Friday.

Unemployment data in focus

Equity market investors will also focus on the upcoming key economic data releases, which are set to be published on Friday, September 4, 2026.

Bureau of Labor Statistics data showed that total nonfarm payroll employment increased by 162,000 in August, and the unemployment rate was unchanged at 4.1%, as per the official release.

“Employment increased in food services and drinking places and in local government education. The information industry lost jobs,” as per the official filing.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics released the employment report (jobs report) along with the unemployment rate for the US economy for August 2026 at 8:30 am (IST), according to the economic calendar.

US equity market indices surged to close higher after the trading session on Thursday, September 3, as investors focused on easing US Treasury yields, major Q2 earnings reports and elevated crude oil prices.

Dow Jones Industrial Average rallied to close 1.18% higher at 53,686.11 points after the trading session on Thursday, in comparison to 53,061.95 points at the previous US stock market close.

MarketWatch data also showed that the S&P 500 index ended 1.06% higher at 7,747.71 points in the trading session on September 3, compared to 7,666.60 points at the previous equity market close.

The tech-heavy Nasdaq 100 index closed 1.16% higher at 29,482.32 points after Thursday’s market session, in comparison to 29,143.33 points at the previous Wall Street close.
