S&P500, NASDAQ rise as July CPI matches expectations; CoreWeave, Super Micro Computer climb 19%

US markets closed mixed on Wednesday after a July inflation report came in on expected lines.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average settled flat with negative bias at 53,770.27, down 0.04%, while the S&P 500 rose 0.26% to end at 7,748.50. The NASDAQ Composite advanced 0.54% to 26,588.49.

Shares of CoreWeave Inc surged 19.28% to $107.73, while Super Micro Computer climbed 19.02% to $37.61. Dell and Micron Technology saw an uptick of 9.87% and 4.92%, respectively.

IBM shares descended 1.02% to $235.98 and Nike fell 1.96% to $40.51. The stock of Microsoft Corp also slid 2.26% to $492.43.

The consumer price index increased 0.1% in July after falling 0.4% in June, the U.S. Bureau of Labour Statistics reported. Over the past 12 months, the all-items index surged 3.4% before seasonal adjustment.

The index for shelter climbed 0.1% in July, accounting for roughly two-thirds of the monthly all-items increase. The index for food also grew 0.1% over the month, as the index for food away from home increased 0.3%. In contrast, the energy index slipped 1.5% in July.

"The index for all items less food and energy rose 0.2% after being unchanged in June. Indexes that increased over the month include medical care, airline fares, communication, education, and recreation. Conversely, the index for motor vehicle insurance was among the major indexes that decreased in July," the Bureau of Labour Statistics said.

"The all items index rose 3.4% for the 12 months ending July after rising 3.5% for the 12 months ending June. The all items less food and energy index rose 2.5% over the year, following a 2.6% increase over the 12 months ending June. The energy index increased 14.7% for the 12 months ending July. The food index increased 3.0% over the last year," it added.

Meanwhile, Brent Crude, the international standard, declined 1.12% to $87.98. West Texas Intermediate fell 1.22% to $82.25.
