NIFTY50 and SENSEX close in green, Coal India and BPCL top gainers

Indian markets managed to close in green at new record high levels. For today's rally, stocks like Bharti Airtel (+1.8%), Infosys (+1.01%), and ICICI Bank (+0.71%) were the top index pullers.

On Tuesday, the NIFTY50 index hit a fresh all-time high of 24,661.25 level in the first half of the trading session. Later, the index oscillated within a 50-60 points range for the rest of the day, eventually settling above the 24,600 mark for the first time, up by 0.11%.

Bharti Airtel and Infosys were top contributors to these gains. In contrast, index heavyweight Reliance Industries and Kotak Mahindra Bank weighed on the index.

On the daily chart, the NIFTY50 index has formed a second consecutive DOJI candlestick pattern. A DOJI candlestick pattern is formed when the open is near the close.

The SENSEX closed above the 80,700 level, up by 51.69 points or 0.06%. Meanwhile, underperforming the frontline gauge, the Nifty Bank ended the session in red, below the 52,400 mark on the weekly expiry day.

Top Gainers & Losers

In the NIFTY50 space, 28 stocks advanced and 22 stocks declined. Coal India (+3.01%), BPCL (+2.71%), Hindustan Unilever (+2.44%), Tata Consumer (+2.28%) and Bharti Airtel (+1.81%) were the major gainers. Laggards included Shriram Finance (-2.16%), Kotak Bank (-1.99%), Dr Reddy’s (-1.55%), Reliance (-1.44%) and NTPC (-1.35%).

Index Movers

Coming to the NIFTY50 index pullers and draggers, Bharti Airtel (+15.73 pts), Infosys (+14.75 pts), ICICI Bank (+13.85 pts), Hindustan Unilever (+12.91 pts), and Coal India (+7.74 pts) were the pullers of the day. Draggers included Reliance (-35.32 pts), Kotak Bank (-12.2 pts), NTPC (-5.59 pts), UltraTech Cement (-4.01 pts), and Dr Reddy’s (-3.99 pts).

Broader indices

Today, the broader market closed flat to positive. The Nifty Midcap 100 remained flat, and the Nifty Smallcap 100 index closed up by 0.08%. Market breadth was slightly in favour of advances on Tuesday as the advancing stocks outnumbered the declining stocks.

Sectoral Indices

Among sectors, most of the indices closed in the red. The top three sectoral gainers were NIFTY Realty (+1.66%), Nifty FMCG (+0.96%), and Nifty IT (+0.59%). The top three losers among the sectors were Nifty Media (-1.03%), Nifty Healthcare (-0.40%) and Nifty Pharma (-0.38%).

Global Markets

Most Asian markets concluded Monday's trading on a positive note, with only Hang Seng closing down by 1.62%. The Shanghai Index closed flat, the Nikkei 225 closed up 0.20% and the Kospi index gained by 0.18%.

At 3:53 PM, the Dow Jones Futures were trading up by 35 points at 40,549.
