Stock market crash: A cocktail of both domestic and global factors, such as likely muted Q3 earnings, fewer rate cuts by the Fed, slowing economic growth, a record low in the rupee, non-stop selling by foreign investors, and a jump in crude oil prices, dragged the equity benchmark indices to their lowest in seven months on Monday, January 13.

On Friday, the gain of 256,000 jobs in the US in December went well beyond the 160,000 expected by economists in a Reuters poll. The unemployment rate, as reported in the Labor Department's monthly jobs report, ticked down to 4.1% from 4.2%.

The strong US jobs report poured cold water on the expectations of rate cuts by the Federal Reserve.
