Mid-market update; NIFTY jumps 90 points, Sensex crosses 73,000 mark, India Vix cools off below 21

Mid-market update; Frontline indices trade in green driven by the metal and realty sector

During the afternoon session on Tuesday, the benchmark indices recovered from lower levels to trade in positive terrain. The 30-share index S&P BSE Sensex was trading above 73,000 with a gain of 282 points or 0.40%. NSE Nifty 50 index was at 22,195 level, up by 92 points or 0.41%. Bank Nifty was up by 61 points or 0.13% to 47,814 from its previous closing.

Sector-wise, the top-performing indices during the mid-day were Nifty Metal (+1.71%), Nifty Realty (+1.56%) and Nifty Media (+1.50%). On the other hand, Nifty Healthcare and Nifty Pharma were seen trading in red.

The Broader markets outperformed the frontline indices. Nifty Midcap 100 traded higher by 0.55%, while the Nifty Smallcap 100 index grew 1.14%. The market breadth was tilted in favour of advances with 1890 stocks declining, while 535 stocks declined and 102 stocks remained unchanged.

On Wall Street, Dow Jones futures were trading flat with a marginal gain of 2 points or 0.01% to 39,561.

In the afternoon session on the Nifty 500 index, some trending stocks were Cochin Shipyard Ltd, Finolex Industries Ltd and Railtel Corporation of India Ltd.

Shares of Cochin Shipyard Ltd zoomed 8.35% on Tuesday to trade at ₹1,295 over its previous close of ₹1,195.20. Today, the intraday high and low of Cochin Shipyard was ₹1,310 and ₹1,240, respectively. The stock rallied as the company secured a large order from a European Client to design and construct a Hybrid Service Operation Vessel (Hybrid SOV) with an option for two more such vessels.
Finolex Industries Ltd jumped by 8.11% and was trading at ₹293.15 above its previous close of ₹271.15. Today, the intraday high and low of Finolex Industries was ₹295.80 and ₹272.45, respectively. The stock hit its fresh 52-week high as the company announced its financial results for the quarter ended March 31, 2024, with a marginal increase in net profit to ₹161 crore.
The stock of Railtel Corporation of India Ltd surged 6.56% in today’s session to trade at ₹379.95. The intraday high and low of Railtel were ₹381 and ₹358.10, respectively. The share price surged as the company received a work order from Central Warehousing Corporation for Supply Installation Testing and Commissioning of Modern Video Surveillance Systems across India.
