Logistics solution provider Transport Corporation of India shares surged more than 14% during the trading session on Friday, September 25, after the company disclosed that the board of directors will consider an equity share buyback proposal next week.
In an exchange filing, Transport Corporation of India informed the exchanges that the board of directors are scheduled to meet next week on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, to consider and approve the proposal of a share buyback.
NSE data showed that Transport Corp. share price rallied 14.5% to touch an intraday high of ₹955 apiece on Friday’s market, in comparison to ₹833.45 apiece at the previous equity market close.
Trading volumes surpassed 34.70 lakh equity shares during the trading session on September 25, marking an 80.35 times increase in trading activity on the National Stock Exchange, when compared to the average volume of 43,196 equity shares in the past week.
High-volume momentum triggered the intraday gains on Friday’s market as the trading volumes increased 102.23 times in comparison to an average trading volume of 33,949 equity shares over the last two weeks on NSE.
After touching the day’s high, Transport Corp. shares retracted some of their intraday gains but were trading 10% higher at ₹919 apiece on Sept. 25.
The company’s stock reacted on Friday’s market as Transport Corp. disclosed its buyback proposal update after market operating hours on Thursday, September 24, 2026.
Transport Corporation of India is scheduled to consider and approve the proposal for an equity share buyback, where the company aims to repurchase fully paid-up equity shares from investors.
However, the company is yet to announce details like the buyback offer size, total proposal amount, and number of equity shares which the company aims to repurchase from the open market.
If approved in the board meeting next week, Transport Corporation of India will announce the relevant details of the corporate action, along with the record date for the share repurchase agreement.
The trading window for all key personnel will remain closed with immediate effect from September 24 till 48 hours after the declaration of the unaudited financial results for the quarter and half-year ending September 30, 2026.
NSE data showed that Transport Corporation of India shares have gained over 11% in the last five market sessions and have delivered more than 3% returns to investors in the past one-year period.
The exchange data further showed that in the long term, the company’s stock has gained more than 121% in the last five years and has given over 16% returns on investment in the last three years.
However, Transport Corp. shares have declined 23% in the past one-year period and have dropped 15% on a year-to-date (YTD) basis so far in 2026.
Shares of Transport Corporation of India surged to their 52-week high of ₹1,242 apiece on October 29, 2025, while the 52-week low was at ₹797 apiece on September 22, 2026, as per NSE data.
The company’s market capitalisation (m-cap) was at ₹7,083 crore as of the trading session on Friday, September 25, 2026.
