Shares of auto components maker Hero Motors rose as much as 20% to its upper circuit level on the third trading session after listing on the stock exchanges.

The stock was trading 18.56% higher at ₹140 per share on the National Stock Exchange (NSE) at 10:11 am. Intraday, it climbed 20% to ₹141.69.

The scrip is trading 68.67% higher than the IPO issue price of ₹84.

The stock had debuted at ₹82 per share on the NSE on September 23. This reflects a discount of 2.38% from the IPO issue price of ₹84.

The initial share sale was subscribed 6.66 times, as it got bids for 58,97,26,638 shares versus 8,86,07,596 shares on offer, as per the data on the BSE website.

The part reserved for non-institutional investors (NIIs) was subscribed 9.86 times, while the category for retail investors was booked 8.23 times. The quota reserved for qualified institutional buyers got 1.49 times subscription.

The initial public offering was a combination of a fresh issuance of 7.14 crore shares worth ₹600 crore, and an offer-for-sale (OFS) valued at ₹400 crore by promoters OP Munjal Holdings and Hero Cycles.

The money raised to the tune of ₹190 crore will be used for debt clearance, while ₹200 crore will be utilised to buy equipment needed for capacity expansion at the company's plant in Uttar Pradesh.

A portion will also be used for inorganic growth via unidentified acquisitions and other strategic initiatives, apart from general corporate purposes.

Hero Motors, a automotive technology company, designs, develops, manufactures and supplies engineered powertrain solutions to automotive original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) in the United States, India, Europe, and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) region.

The company serves to several global firms, including Ducati Motor Holding SPA, BMW AG, Enviolo International Inc, Hummingbird EV and Formula Motorsport Ltd.
