Top gainers and losers, September 26: IndusInd Bank, M&M fall 4%, L&T rises 3%; check full list

The benchmark indices SENSEX and NIFTY50 closed in the red for the sixth consecutive session in a row on Friday, September 26, falling as much as 1%. They were weighed down by selling in pharma and IT stocks as the US President Donald Trump announced 100% duties on branded drugs from October.

SENSEX dropped 733.22 points or 0.90% to settle at a three-week low of 80,426.46. Similarly, NIFTY dropped 236.15 points or 0.95% to close at 24,654.70.

NIFTY50 top gainers and losers

The 50-share NIFTY index was dragged down by selling in shares of IndusInd Bank, which lost as much as 3.88%.

It was followed by Mahindra & Mahindra (-3.68%), Tata Steel (-2.92%), Eternal (-2.81%), and Bajaj Finance (-2.74%), which were among the top losers on Friday.

On the flip side, Larsen & Toubro shares closed 2.71% higher after the company reported that it reached an in-principle understanding with the government of Telangana, according to which the latter will take over the Hyderabad Metro SPV by refinancing the current debt and acquiring equity of L&T Metro Rail (Hyderabad) Limited.

The gains were also led by Tata Motors (1.45%), ITC (1.22%), Eicher Motors (0.70%), and Reliance Industries (0.48%).

NIFTY Midcap 100 top gainers and losers

The NIFTY Midcap 100 index declined 2.05% or 1,177.35 points to close at 56,378.55.

The midcap gauge was weighed down by Vodafone Idea, which fell 7.37%, after the Supreme Court postponed the hearing on the company’s adjusted gross revenue (AGR) case to October 6, 2025, as the government borrowed more time to respond. The company had moved to the Supreme Court seeking reassessment of the additional AGR this month.

It was followed by Waaree Energies, which closed 7.12% lower, on the back of a news report stating that the US Customs and Border Protection has started a formal investigation of Waaree and Waaree Solar Americas Inc for evading anti-dumping and countervailing duties on solar cells from China and other Southeast Asian nations.

Biocon (-4.78%), Steel Authority of India (-4.34%), and Oracle Financial Services Software (-4.09%) were also among the top laggards.

On the contrary, Ashok Leyland (0.96%), AU Small Finance Bank (0.30%), and BSE Ltd (0.23%) were the only winners on the index.

NIFTY Smallcap 100 top gainers and losers

NSE’s smallcap gauge, the NIFTY Smallcap 100, fell as much as 2.26% or 405.90 points to end at 17,560.90.

It was pulled down by Laurus Labs (-7.15%), Neuland Laboratories (-5.81%), HFCL Limited (-5.43%), Hindustan Copper (-4.98%), and PNB Housing Finance (-4.82%).

On the other hand, Jupiter Wagons (3.50%), HBL Engineering (2.07%), Nuvama Wealth Management (1.45%), Tejas Networks (1.23%), and Kfin Technologies (0.55%) were among the top gainers.
