Top gainers and losers, Sept 2: Eicher Motors, Wipro fall 3%, Coal India soars 4%; check list

Top gainers and losers: The Indian benchmark indices, SENSEX and NIFTY50, closed in negative territory on Wednesday, September 2, amid a sell-off in auto and media stocks, as investors remained cautious as crude oil prices surged due to the escalating tensions between the United States and Iran.

The SENSEX tumbled as much as 1.05% to hit an intraday low of 76,135.72. Meanwhile, the NIFTY50 slumped as much as 1.12% to touch the session’s low of 23,786.80.

On September 2, the 30-share BSE Sensex dropped by 373.93 points or 0.49% to close at 76,570.35. The 50-share NIFTY ended lower by 141.35 points or 0.59% at 23,914.45.

NIFTY50 top gainers and losers

The top losers in the index included Eicher Motors (-3.24%), Wipro (-2.54%), Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) (-2.12%), Bajaj Auto (-1.87%) and Asian Paints (-1.86%).

On the other hand, Coal India (4.05%), NTPC (1.85%), Adani Ports & Special Economic Zone (1.53%), Adani Enterprises (0.97%) and Bajaj Finserv (0.91%) were among the top gainers.

Shares of Coal India surged after the state-owned company said its total coal supplies increased 5.5% to 60.60 million tonnes (MT) in August FY 2026–27 as compared to 57.40 MT supplied during the corresponding month last year.

The company also recorded a 4.5% growth in coal supplies to the power sector during the month, reaching 48.46 MT, compared to 46.39 MT in August FY26.

NIFTY Midcap 100 top gainers and losers

NSE’s NIFTY midcap gauge, the Midcap 100, closed 0.53% or 332.90 points lower at 63,001.60 on September 2.

The index was weighed down due to a sell-off in Hero MotoCrop, which ended 4.59% lower following the release of its monthly sales report for August. Its motorcycle dispatch fell 2% YoY to 4,93,851 units during the month under review, as against 5,01,523 in August 2025.

Its domestic dispatch advanced by 4.4% YoY to 5,42,305 units in August 2026, compared with 5,19,139 units dispatched in August 2025, while its export dispatch stood at 26,093 units, down by 24.6% YoY from 34,588 units in the same period of 2025.

The other top laggards were Motilal Voltas (-4.39%), KEI Industries (-3.33%), Blue Star (-3.06%), and Swiggy (-2.65%).

On the flip side, the top winners included JSW Energy (4.21%), Vodafone Idea (3.34%), Kalyan Jewellers India (2.97%), UPL Ltd (2%), and Vishal Mega Mart (1.90%).

NIFTY Smallcap 100 top gainers and losers

The NIFTY Smallcap 100 ended at 19,812.25, down by 74 points or 0.37%.

It was weighed down by Ola Electric Mobility (-3.85%), Brainbees Solutions (-3.70%), Aarti Industries (-3.62%), Himadri Speciality Chemical (-3.50%) and Sona BLW Precision Forgings (-3.32%), which were among the top losers during the trading session.

On the contrary, the top gainers were IFCI (11.99%), Sai Life Sciences (4.08%), Redington (3.80%), BEML Ltd (3.42%) and Meesho (3.15%).
