The Indian equity benchmarks fell for second consecutive session on Wednesday, May 28, dragged down by losses in index heavyweights like ITC, Reliance Industries, Mahindra & Mahindra, HDFC Bank, UltraTech Cement, Sun Pharma and Hindustan Unilever. The SENSEX fell as much as 308 points and NIFTY50 index touched an intraday low of 24,737.05. The SENSEX fell 239 points to close at 81,312 and NIFT50 index declined 74 points to settle at 24,752.

NIFTY50 top gainers and losers

IndusInd Bank was top loser in the NIFTY50 basket of shares, the stock fell 1.93% to close at ₹805 after CNBC TV18 reported that global investment bank JPMorgan has downgraded the stock saying that although IndusInd Bank's book value is secure despite the recent turn of events, its Pre-Provisioning Operating Profit (PPoP) and its Return on Assets (RoA) will take a long time to rebound.

Apollo Hospitals (-1.89%), UltraTech Cement (-1.82%), Hindalco (-1.65%) and Nestle India (-1.62%) were also among the losers.

On the other hand, HDFC Life was top gainer in the NIFTY50 index, the stock advanced 1.51% to close at ₹787.55. Bharat Electronics (1.27%), Bajaj Finance (1.21%), Hero MotoCorp (0.87%) and Bharti Airtel (0.63%) were also among the gainers.

NIFTY Midcap 100 gainers and losers

NIFTY Midcap 100 index ended 0.02% or 13 points lower at 57,141.40. As many as 53 shares in the NIFTY Midcap 100 index ended lower while 47 closed higher.

IGL was top gainer in the NIFTY Midcap 100 index, the stock rose 3.16% to close at ₹212.85. Bharti Hexacom (3.14%), PI Industries (3.01%), NTPC Green (2.84%) and Bank of India (2.77%) were also among the gainers.

On the flipside, Escorts Kubota was top loser in the NIFTY Midcap 100 index, the stock fell 4.47% to close at ₹3,374. Aurobindo Pharma (-3.98%), NMDC (-2.69%), Tata Technologies (-2.25%) and Bharat Dynamics (-2.25%) were also among the losers.

NIFTY Smallcap 100 gainers and losers

NIFTY Smallcap 100 index outperformed Midcap 100 and NIFTY50 indexes as it rose 0.33% or 59 points to close at 17,784. IFCI was top gainer in the NIFTY Smallcap 100 index, the stock rose 15.54% to close at ₹71. ITI advanced 10% after its loss narrowed sharply in March quarter.

Zen Technologies (5%), RITES (3.95%) and Affle India (3.62%) were also among the gainers.

On the contrary, Action Construction Equipment (-4.03%), IKS (-3.25%), Reliance Power (-3.06%), Titagarh Rail Systems (-2.85%) and Five-Star Business Finance (-2.41%) were among losers in the NIFTY Smallcap 100 index.
