SUMMARY

NIFTY Midcap 100 gauge closed in the positive territory at 56,687.75, gaining 362.90 points or 0.64%, propelled by gains in BSE Ltd (4.99%), Max Financial Services (4.22%), Bharat Heavy Electricals (3.02%), Max Healthcare Institute (2.56%) and Ola Electric Mobility (2.47%).

The Indian stock market indices, SENSEX and NIFTY, bounced back sharply by nearly 1% on Friday, May 23, driven by gains in market heavyweights including Reliance Industries, HDFC Bank and ITC. As many as 2,361 stocks advanced while 1,589 declined and 156 remained unchanged on the BSE.

While the day started with flat trade, SENSEX rebounded and rose 0.95% or 769.09 points to close at 81,721.08. The BSE gauge surged 953.18 points or 1.17% to 81,905.17 during the day. Further, NIFTY50 gained 243.45 points or 0.99% to 24,853.15.

NIFTY50 top gainers and losers

Eternal led the NIFTY50 pack, gaining 3.63% to close at ₹237.34. It was followed by HDFC Life Insurance (3.28%), Jio Financial Services (2.49%), Power Grid (2.46%) and ITC (2.32%), which were among the top gainers.

On the other hand, Sun Pharma closed in the red at ₹1,689.10, down 1.72% after it reported a nearly 19% drop in consolidated net profit for March FY25. Grasim Industries (-0.70%), Bharti Airtel (-0.02%) and Bharat Electronics (-0.01%) were also among the top laggards.

NIFTY Midcap 100 gauge closed in the positive territory at 56,687.75, gaining 362.90 points or 0.64%, propelled by gains in BSE Ltd (4.99%), Max Financial Services (4.22%), Bharat Heavy Electricals (3.02%), Max Healthcare Institute (2.56%) and Ola Electric Mobility (2.47%).

On the flipside, Waare Energies (-8.04%), Premier Energies (-2.35%), GMR Airports (-2.20%), Container Corporation (-2.16) and NHPC (-1.78%) were the top losers.

NIFTY Smallcap 100 top gainers and losers

NSE’s smallcap index stood at the 17,643.35 level at market closing, up by 140.25 points or 0.80%. Its top gainers include Reliance Power (16.48%), IFCI (10.10%), Angel One (5.20%), Hindustan Copper (4.88%) and Brainbees Solution (4.48%).

Conversely, Aegis Logistics (-4.31%), Aster DM Healthcare (-2.74%), Amber Enterprises (-2.60%), Gujarat State Petronet (-2.55%) and Sagility (-2.16%) were among the top five laggards.

FMCG sector jumped 1.49%, utilities (1.02%), power (1.01%), financial services (0.99%), bankex (0.99%), oil and gas (0.94%) and energy (0.82%).
