Top gainers and losers on May 15: Tata Motors, JSW Steel, Hero MotoCorp rise over 4%; check full list

The Indian equity benchmarks surged to seven-month highs on Thursday, May 15 after reports suggested that US President Donald Trump mentioned in Doha that India and the US are closer to signing a trade deal soon. Trump mentioned that India has offered practically zero tariffs on US imports. The SENSEX rose as much as 1,956 points from its day's lowest level and NIFTY50 index surpassed 25,000-mark for the first time since October 16, data from National Stock Exchange showed.

NIFTY50 top gainers and losers

Hero MotoCorp was top gainer in the NIFTY50 basket of shares, the stock rose 6.17% to close at ₹4,318. JSW Steel (4.82%), Tata Motors (4.30%), Trent (3.80%) and Shriram Finance (3.38%) were also among the gainers.

On the flipside, IndusInd Bank was the only loser in the NIFTY50 index.

NIFTY Midcap 100 gainers and losers

NIFTY Midcap 100 index rose 0.70% or 394 points to close at 56,530.85. As many as 70 shares in the NIFTY Midcap 100 index ended higher while 30 closed lower.

Cochin Shipyard was top gainer in the NIFTY Midcap 100 index. The stock jumped 7.27% to close at ₹1,823 after it reported March quarter earnings. Cochin Shipyard on Thursday, May 15, reported a consolidated net profit of ₹287.18 crore for the quarter ended March 31, 2025 (Q4 FY25). This translates to a rise of 10.9% on a year-on-year (YoY) basis.

The company reported a profit of ₹258.89 crore in the year-ago period.

Basic earnings per share (EPS) for the quarter under review came in at ₹10.92 against ₹9.84 in the corresponding quarter of the previous fiscal year.

Alkem Labs (3.74%), IRB Infra (3.61%), Vodafone Idea (3.44%) and Waaree Energies (3.14%) were also among the gainers.

On the other hand, Muthoot Finance fell 6.72% to close at ₹2,108 after its March quarter earnings report failed to enthuse investors.

The gold financier on Wednesday reported a 22% jump in consolidated profit to ₹1,444 crore for the March quarter of the 2024-25 fiscal year (Q4 FY25).

The company had reported a consolidated profit after tax (PAT) of ₹1,182 crore in the year-ago period.

On a standalone basis, Muthoot Finance's net profit grew 41% to ₹1,479 crore. The gross assets under management (AUM) stood at ₹1.06 lakh crore, a year-on-year (YoY) growth of 41%.

Tube Investments of India fell 4.18% after its revenue in March quarter remained flat at ₹1,957 crore as against ₹1,962.44 crore in the same period last year.

BSE (-2.68%), Union Bank of India (-2.13%) and Persistent Systems (-1.94%) were also among the losers.

NIFTY Smallcap 100 gainers and losers

NIFTY Smallcap 100 index rose 0.54% or 92 points to close at 17,240. As many as 68 shares in the NIFTY Smallcap 100 index ended higher.

KEC International was top gainer in the NIFTY Smallcap 100 index. The stock rose 7.95% to close at ₹796. Triveni Turbine (7.01%), RK Forgings (6.86%), HFCL (5.31%) and Zen Technologies (5%) were also among the gainers.

On the contrary, Piramal Pharma was top loser in the NIFTY Smallcap 100 index, the stock fell 4.83% to close at ₹208.45 after it reported marginal rise in profit in March quarter. Its net profit rose 1.56% to ₹277 crore from ₹273 crore in the year-ago period.

Neuland Laboratories (-4.61%), Sagility (-4.27%), CESC (-2.99%) and Brigade Enterprises (-2.31%) were also among the laggards.
