The Wall Street ended sharply higher on Wednesday leading to surge in Asian peers after the US Federal Reserve kept the interest rates unchanged and signalled that it expects to cut rates twice this year even as it sees inflation staying elevated. The Dow Jones rose 0.92%, S&P500 climbed 1.08% and tech heavy Nasdaq advanced 1.41%.
Meanwhile, the pace of selling by foreign institutional investors seems to be abating as they purchased Indian equities for first time in a month on Tuesday. As per data from the National Stock Exchange, FIIs bought shares worth ₹695 crore on Tuesday and followed it up by buying stocks worth ₹710 crore on Wednesday.
Bharti Airtel was top gainer in the NIFTY50 basket of shares, the stock rose 4.08% to close at ₹1,704 after the company informed exchanges that it has become leading telecom operator in Kerala. Bharti Airtel has deployed close to 2,500 sites in Kerala in the last two years, taking the total site count to over 11,000 in the state, the most by any telecom operator, Bharti Airtel said.
Titan, the country's largest jewellery retailer, rose 3.47% to close at ₹3,183.05 following surge in gold price. The 24K gold rose by ₹10 to hit an all-time high of ₹90,450 per 10 grams and the 22K gold to ₹82,910 per 10 grams in major Indian cities.
Eicher Motors (2.61%), Bajaj Auto (2.57%) and Britannia Industries (2.57%) were also among the gainers.
On the flipside, IndusInd Bank was top NIFTY50 loser, the stock fell 1.11% to close at ₹685. Bajaj Finance, Trent and Shriram Finance were also among the notable losers.
The Phoenix Mills (4.78%), Max Healthcare (4.29%), Mankind Pharma (4.13%) and Bharat Dynamics (3.94%) were also among the gainers.
One97 Communications (-3.92%), Vodafone Idea (-2.15%), Poonawalla Fincorp (-1.99%) and Indian Overseas Bank (-1.92%) were also among the losers.
Smallcap shares also witnessed buying interest and the NIFTY Smallcap 100 index advanced 0.70% to close at 15,858.05. The index rose for fourth straight session and in last four sessions it has advanced 6.45%. KEC International was top gainer in the NIFTY Smallcap 100 index, the stock rose 8.47% to settle at ₹830. The stock has been witnessing buying interest after the company announced that it won multiple orders worth ₹1,267 crore. In the last four trading sessions, the stock has jumped 23.47% on the BSE.
Amber Enterprises (5.07%), Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers (4.49%), Firstsource Solutions (4.09%) and Hindustan Copper (3.73%) were also among the gainers.
On the other hand, HBL Engineering was top NIFTY Smallcap 100 loser, the stock fell 4.56% to close at ₹460. Finolex Cables (-4.46%), Tanla Platforms (-3.46%), Aadhar Housing Finance (-2.84%) and CAMS (-2.77%) were also among the losers in the NIFTY Smallcap 100 index.
