Top gainers and losers on August 29: M&M, RIL fall over 2%, ITC, Shriram Finance surges 2%; check list

The Indian benchmark indices, SENSEX and NIFTY50, closed in the negative territory on August 29, as investors continued to reel under pressure caused by the imposition of high tariffs and relentless foreign fund outflows.

Extending the two-day falling streak, the 30-share BSE Sensex dropped 270.92 points or 0.34% to settle at 79,809.65. The 50-share NIFTY edged lower by 74.05 points or 0.30% to 24,426.85.

NIFTY50 top gainers and losers

Mahindra & Mahindra dragged down the NIFTY50 pack, falling 2.89% to close at ₹3,200 apiece on Friday.

It was followed by Reliance Industries, which declined 2.16%, following its 48th annual general meeting (AGM), at which billionaire Mukesh Ambani announced that Reliance Jio, its subsidiary, is planning to launch an initial public offering (IPO) and listing on bourses in the first half of 2026.

It was followed by Infosys (-2.07%), Apollo Hospitals (-1.15%), and Adani Enterprises (-1.20%), which were among the top laggards.

On the other hand, ITC surged 2.15% to close at ₹409.50 apiece. Shriram Finance (1.79%), Bharat Electronics (1.53%), Larsen & Toubro (1.26%), and Asian Paints (1.25%) were among the top gainers on Friday.

NIFTY Midcap 100 top gainers and losers

NSE’s NIFTY midcap gauge, the Midcap 100, settled 0.57% or 320.10 points lower at 55,727.40 on August 29, weighed down by selling in BSE Ltd, which declined 3.64%.

Motilal Oswal Financial Services (-3.56%), SJVN (-2.83%), Ashok Leyland (-2.21%), and One 97 Communications (-2.16%) were among the top losers.

On the flipside, shares of Colgate-Palmolive closed 2.91% higher, leading the top gainers. It was followed by Escorts Kubota (2.87%), Yes Bank (2.46%), Marico (2.02%), and IRB Infrastructure Developers (1.68%).

NIFTY Smallcap 100 top gainers and losers

The NIFTY Smallcap 100 ended at 17,227, down 67.35 points or 0.39%. It was pulled down by selling in IDBI Bank (-4.46%), Swan Energy (-4.25%), Welspun Corp (-4.07%), Welspun Living (-3.40%), and Brigade Enterprises (-3.35%) were among the top losers during the trading sessions.

On the contrary, CreditAccess Grameen (3.87%), Godfrey Phillips India (3.80%), HBL Engineering (-3.53%), Bata India (2.56%), and Redington (2.42%).
