The NIFTY Smallcap 100 settled 242.95 points (1.38%) up at 17,790.40 on Monday, August 18. Top gainers on the index were PG Electroplast (8.10%), Amber Enterprises (8.05%), KEC International (7.25%), Bata India (6.70%) and Piramal Enterprises (5.18%).

The NIFTY midcap 100 index climbed over 1% on Monday, driven by strong buying in auto and consumer stocks.

Stock markets in India recorded their best single-day performance in over two months on Monday, August 18, led by auto stocks Maruti Suzuki India (8.92%) and Hero MotoCorp (5.99%).

The equity benchmarks’ bull run was on the back of the positive sentiment in the market brought by Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Independence Day speech.

The SENSEX jumped 676 points (0.84%) to end at 81,274, while the NIFTY50 index climbed 246 points (1%) to close at 24,877. As per BSE data, investors’ wealth surged significantly on Monday with market capitalisation soaring by ₹5.39 lakh crore.

NIFTY50 top gainers and losers

The NIFTY50 index soared on the back of gains in the stock of Maruti Suzuki, which ended 8.92% higher at ₹14,090 apiece on the NSE on Monday. The Maruti Suzuki scrip touched an intraday high of ₹14,125 per share during the session. 

Other top gainers on the index were Hero MotoCorp (5.99%), Nestle India (5.23%), Bajaj Finance (5.06%) and Bajaj Auto (4.61%). 

Top losers, on the other hand, were ITC (-1.49%), Eternal (-1.35%), Larsen & Toubro (-1.01%), NTPC (-0.9%) and Infosys (-0.8%). 

NIFTY Midcap 100 top gainers and losers

The NIFTY midcap 100 index climbed on Monday, driven by strong buying in auto and consumer stocks, ending 608.9 points (1.08%) up at 57,113.15. The rise was led by Ashok Leyland, which surged 8.15% to ₹131.90 per share. 

Escorts (6.13%), Apollo Tyres (5.97%), Voltas (5.80%) and Vodafone Idea (5.37%) were among the top gainers on the index. 

On the other hand, Glenmark Pharma led the top losers pack, declining 3.46% to ₹1,973.90. Other top laggards included Suzlon Energy (-3.26%), Kalyan Jewellers (-2.53%), BHEL (-2.09%) and Torrent Power (-2.00%).

NIFTY Smallcap 100 top gainers and losers

The NIFTY Smallcap 100 settled 242.95 points (1.38%) up at 17,790.40 on Monday, August 18. The scrip of PG Electroplast led the pack, rising by 8.10% to ₹529.30 apiece. 

It was followed by Amber Enterprises (8.05%), KEC International (7.25%), Bata India (6.70%) and Piramal Enterprises (5.18%), which were among the top gainers.

Top losers included Godfrey Phillips India (-5.03%), PVR Inox (-1.95%), Swan Energy (-1.93%), Affle India (-1.77%) and KFin Technologies (-1.15%).
