Top gainers and losers, October 16: Nestle India surges 5%, Tata Consumer, Titan up 3%; Eternal down 4%

Top gainers and losers: Indian benchmark indices SENSEX and NIFTY50 ended sharply higher on Thursday, October 16, with SENSEX rising 862.23 points and the NIFTY scaling 25,585.30 level, bolstered by a rally in global markets amid US Fed rate cut hopes. Fresh foreign fund inflows also added to the markets' optimism.

The 30-share BSE SENSEX jumped 862.23 points or 1.04% to close at 83,467.66. The 50-share NIFTY surged 261.75 points or 1.03% to 25,585.30.

NIFTY50 top gainers and losers

The 50-share NIFTY index was bolstered by gains in the stock of Nestle India, which closed 4.76% higher, despite posting a 23.63% YoY decline in its standalone profit after tax to ₹753.2 crore in Q2FY26, compared to ₹986.36 crore in the year-ago period. However, its revenue from operations advanced 10.57% YoY to ₹5,643.61 crore during the quarter.

It was followed by Tata Consumer Products (3.10%), Titan Company (2.45%), Axis Bank (2.25%), and Kotak Mahindra Bank (2.11%), which were among the top gainers on October 16.

On the other hand, the top losers pack was led by Eternal, which slipped 3.91% after reporting a 63% YoY drop in net profit to ₹65 crore in Q2FY26.

HDFC Life Insurance Company (-2.38%), Shriram Finance (-0.54%), Infosys (-0.24%), and Jio Financial Services (-0.18%) trailed behind Eternal.

NIFTY Midcap 100 top gainers and losers

NSE’s midcap gauge, the NIFTY Midcap 100, rose 0.46% or 271.15 points to 59,241.15 on Thursday. The index was supported by Oberoi Realty, which closed 5.66% higher, a day after reporting a 29% rise in its consolidated profit to ₹760.26 crore for the second quarter of FY26, compared to ₹589.44 crore in the Q2FY25.

It was followed by SRF Ltd (3.62%), Sona BLW Precision Forgings (3.46%), Godrej Properties (3.24%), and Waaree Energies (3.17%), which were among the top winners.

On the flipside, shares of KEI Industries slumped 5.67% at close, with the stock tumbling nearly 9% to an intraday low of ₹4,031.9 apiece, as its September quarter earnings failed to impress the Street.

The top laggards included Max Financial Services (-3.24%), IDFC First Bank (-1.59%), Coromandel International (-1.30%), and Oil India (-1.29%).

NIFTY Smallcap 100 top gainers and losers

The NIFTY Smallcap 100 settled at 18,131.85, up 43.80 points or 0.24% on October 16. It was held up by buying in HBL Engineering, which settled 14.77% higher after securing a contract from the Minister of External Affairs (MEA), Government of India, to establish and operate Indian Visa Application Centres (IVACs) in China. The contract will be valid for a period of three years, effective October 14, 2025.

The other top gainers included Whirlpool of India (4.99%), Ola Electric Mobility (4.99%), Cyient (3.82%), and Navin Fluorine International (3.29%).

On the contrary, Anant Raj (-4.23%), Delhivery (-2.95%), Multi Commodity Exchange of India (-2.12%), Redington (-1.92%), and Castrol India (-1.91%) were among the top losers.
