Top gainers and losers, Oct 5: ITC jumps 5%, BSE gains 4%, Tata Motors PV surges over 3%; check full list

The Indian stock market snapped its four-day losing streak and ended higher on Monday, October 5, led by gains in FMCG, consumer durables and PSU bank stocks. Easing crude oil prices and positive cues from the Asian market also supported market sentiment.

At close, the S&P BSE SENSEX stood at the 72,382.47 level, gaining 472.77 points, or 0.66%, while the NSE’s NIFTY50 index jumped 133.80 points, or 0.6%, to end at the 22,555.75 level.
The SENSEX rose as much as 722 points and the NIFTY50 index touched an intraday high of 22,622, led by gains in index heavyweights like ICICI Bank, Reliance Industries, Bharti Airtel, ITC, Larsen & Toubro, Bajaj Finance and Eternal.

The PSU banking shares ended higher after they reported strong credit growth in the second quarter of the current financial year.

NIFTY50 top gainers and losers

ITC (5.08%) was the biggest contributing stock on the NIFTY50 index following positive commentary from the analysts. BSE (4.39%), Tata Motors PV (3.31%), Shriram Finance (2.79%) and Bajaj Finance (2.29%) were the other top gainers on the index.

In a note on Monday, analysts from Citi said ITC’s mitigation actions are progressing better than initially expected and profitability appears to be bottoming out. They added that the earnings downgrade cycle is largely over and the risk-reward remains favourable despite near-term pressures.

On the contrary, HCL Technologies (-3.31%), Max Healthcare Institute (-2.55%), HDFC Bank (-2.27%), Apollo Hospitals (-1.83%) and Asian Paints (-1.7%) were the top losers on the 50-share index.

Shares of HDFC Bank were after the lender said that Anup Bagchi is set to become the next chief executive and managing director.

NIFTY Midcap 100 top gainers and losers

NSE’s NIFTY Midcap 100 gauge gained 0.67%, or 391.65 points, to end at 59,123.65 on Monday, October 5.

Kalyan Jewellers (5.36%), Nykaa parent FSN E-Commerce Ventures (4.49%), AU Small Finance Bank (4.28%), Billionbrains Garage Ventures (4.03%) and Hindustan Copper (3.64%) were the main gainers.

On the flip side, Max Financial Services (-3.16%) was the biggest loser, while UPL Limited and Prestige Estates Projects slipped 2.77% each. Fortis Healthcare (-2.7%) and Bharat Forge (-2.24%) were also among top laggards.

NIFTY Smallcap 100 top gainers and losers

The NIFTY Smallcap 100 index declined by 0.47%, or 90.45 points, to close at the 19,149.10 level.

Physicswallah (9.01%), Nuvama Wealth Management (6.38%), Netweb Technologies India (5.42%), R R Kabel (5.39%) and Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals (5.06%) were the top gainers on the index.

Among the losers’ pack included Bandhan Bank (-4.39%), Welspun Corp (-4.02%), Emmvee Photovoltaic Power (-3.24%), Aegis Logistics (-3.09%) and Belrise Industries (-2.84%).
