On November 2, both the indices closed at their respective intraday highs. SENSEX closed 1,233.25 points or 1.66% higher at 75,692.78, while the NIFTY ended at 23,440.80, marking a 1.68% or 387.70 points jump.
The index was supported by buying in the shares of Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL), which closed 11.60% higher, as it posted a 41% year-on-year (YoY) surge in its consolidated net profit (attributable to owners of the company) to ₹25,548 crore in the second quarter of the 2026-27 financial year (Q2 FY27).
In the corresponding period of the preceding fiscal year, the company had logged a profit of ₹18,165 crore. The YoY growth in profit was supported by a strong increase in revenues from the Oil to Chemicals (O2C) segment in the period, according to a regulatory filing.
The other top gainers included Tata Steel (5.83%), JSW Steel (5.13%), Shriram Finance (4.88%), and Coal India Ltd (CIL) (4.88%).
CIL stock advanced as the company said it recorded a landmark operational performance in October of the 2026-27 financial year, registering its highest-ever monthly total coal supplies and supplies to the power sector for the first time in its history.
The state-owned coal mining and refining enterprise said its monthly coal supplies crossed 70 million tonnes (MT) for the first time, reaching 70.3 MT and surpassing the previous monthly record of 69.4 MT set in March 2026. It registered a robust 19% YoY growth over the 59.2 MT supplied in October FY26.
On the flip side, Infosys (-2.03%), ICICI Bank (-0.76%), Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories (-0.74%), Kotak Mahindra Bank (-0.70%), and Axis Bank (-0.66%) were among the other top losers.
The NIFTY Midcap 100 closed at 57,983.40, marking a 682.15-point or 1.19% increase on November 2.
Dixon Technologies (11.99%), Vishal Mega Mart (5.33%), NLC India (5.15%), Cochin Shipyards (4.74%) and National Aluminium Company (4.28%) were among the top winners.
Dixon Technologies shares rallied despite reporting a 48.7% YoY fall in its consolidated net profit to ₹343.7 crore for the September quarter, compared with ₹670 crore in the same period last year. The company’s profit dropped mainly due to a lower fair value gain on its stake in Aditya Infotech.
Its consolidated revenue from operations rose 46.7% YoY to ₹21,794 crore during the quarter under review, as against ₹14,855 crore in the second quarter of FY26.
