Top gainers and losers for today on October 16: HDFC Life, Dr Reddy’s Labs, Grasim lead NIFTY movers

SUMMARY

HDFC Life Insurance Company was the top gainer among the NIFTY constituents, as the stock closed at ₹727 apiece, up by 1.79%. Dr Reddy’s Laboratories, Grasim, and HDFC Bank were the other major gainers. On the other hand, Trent and Mahindra & Mahindra were the top drags.

Benchmark indices SENSEX and NIFTY closed in the negative territory on Wednesday, October 16, extending the losses for the second straight day.

NIFTY50 closed at 24,971, down by 86.05 points, or 0.34%. Earlier in the session, the benchmark index hit an intraday low of 24,908 and a high of 25,093.

BSE SENSEX settled at 81,501, lower by 318 points or 0.39%. The benchmark index fell to an intraday low of 81,358 points while touching a high of 81,932.

Among sectoral indices, NIFTY Realty and NIFTY Oil & Gas closed higher by 0.55% and 0.23%, respectively. On the other hand, the NIFTY Auto and NIFTY IT indices closed lower by 1.27% and 1.17%, respectively.

Out of the total 50 NIFTY constituents, 34 closed in the red dragged by Trent, Mahindra & Mahindra and Infosys shares.

HDFC Life and Dr Reddy’s Laboratories emerge as top NIFTY gainers

HDFC Life Insurance Company shares gained the most among benchmark NIFTY constituents. The insurance stock closed at ₹727 apiece, up by 1.79%. The stock surged over 2% to hit an intraday high at ₹732.45 apiece.
Pharmaceutical company, Dr Reddy’s Laboratories shares traded higher by more than 2% to hit an intraday high of ₹6,745.95 apiece. The stock settled with gains of 1.34% at ₹6,700 apiece on the NSE.

Shares of cement maker Grasim gained over 1% to hit an intraday-high of ₹2,784 apiece on the NSE. The stock closed higher by 1.05% at ₹2,764.4 apiece.

Private lender HDFC Bank stock gained over 1% to hit an intraday high of ₹1,707.95 apiece. The stock closed 0.97% higher at ₹1,700.45 apiece on the NSE.
Shares of Bajaj Auto also rallied over 1% to trade at an intraday high of ₹11,680 apiece before closing flat at ₹11,622.5 up by 0.88% ahead of the release of its Q2 results.

Among other NIFTY constituents Bharti Airtel, Reliance Industries and ONGC shares closed higher by up to 0.86% on October 16.

Trent and Mahindra & Mahindra emerge as top losers

Tata group company Trent's stock declined the most among NIFTY constituents. The stock dipped over 4% to hit a low of ₹7,766.5 apiece on the NSE. The retail firm’s stock closed at ₹7,830.9 apiece, down by 3.61%.
Shares of automotive major, Mahindra & Mahindra declined more than 3% to hit an intraday low of ₹3,052.15 apiece. The stock closed lower by 2.78% at ₹3,068 per piece.
Shares of IT services company Infosys closed lower by 2.1% at ₹1918.1 apiece and Hero MotoCorp settled at ₹5,39 apiece, down by 2.1%. Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone also closed at ₹1,400.5 apiece, down by 1.39%, on the NSE.

Among other NIFTY constituents, Kotak Mahindra Bank, JSW Steel and Tata Motors ended in the red by declining up to 1.33%.
