The Reserve Bank of India's (RBI) Monetary Policy Committee (MPC), chaired by Governor Sanjay Malhotra, on Wednesday, unanimously decided to keep the repo rate unchanged at 5.25% while retaining its ‘neutral’ stance due to the higher inflation risk in the upcoming period at its latest policy review.
On Tuesday, the foreign institutional investors (FIIs) purchased stocks worth ₹2,446.47 crore, while the domestic institutional investors (DIIs) sold equities worth ₹936.14 crore on a net basis, according to exchange data.
On August 5, the SENSEX closed 152.02 points or 0.19% higher at 78,581, while the NIFTY50 advanced 9.75 points or 0.04% to end at 24,624.65.
The NIFTY50 pack was led by Shriram Finance (3.23%), Grasim Industries (2.74%), JSW Steel (2.31%), Hindalco Industries (1.96%) and NTPC (1.82%), which were among the other top gainers.
On the other hand, the other top losers included Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) (-1.91%), Apollo Hospitals Enterprise (-1.55%), HCL Technologies (-1.45%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries (-1.22%) and Jio Financial Services (-1.15%).
The NSE Midcap gauge closed at 63,605.25, up by 113.65 points or 10.18%.
The top winners were Jubilant Foodworks (4.30%), Mphasis (3.36%), Godrej Properties (3.22%), 360 ONE WAM (3.20%) and Ashok Leyland (2.86%).
On the flipside, the top laggards included Kalyan Jewellers India (-3.70%), Multi Commodity Exchange (-3.04%), Tata Communications (-2.90%), Marico (-2.63%) and NHPC (-2.36%).

Its top gainers included Hindustan Copper (8.31%), Ola Electric Mobility (7.60%), Tenneco Clean Air India (5.61%), Gujarat Mineral Development Corporation (4.68%) and Devyani International (4.18%).
Shares of Ola Electric Mobility surged as investors focused on the company’s battery energy storage system (BESS) expansion plans and its latest partnership deal with Axis Energy.
As per the deal, Axis Energy is building grids for over 3,750 megawatt (MW) projects in Andhra Pradesh and Rajasthan and has a strong pipeline of 3500 MW; these projects will require large-scale BESS to improve renewable energy integration, enhance grid reliability, and deliver firm, round-the-clock clean energy.
Hence, the company has signed an MoU with Ola Electric to leverage the company’s ‘Ola Mahashakti’, a forthcoming battery energy storage platform for commercial, industrial and utility-scale applications.
Conversely, Ramco Cements (-3.06%), Data Patterns (India) (-2.76%), CreditAccess Grameen (-2.54%), Pine Labs (-2.44%) and Delhivery (-2.44%) were among its top losers.
