Thermax, Firstsource Solutions shares surge over 10% amid heavy volumes; check full list

The Indian equity benchmarks extended losses in noon deals on Friday, May 8, as investor sentiment turned cautious after crude oil prices moved above $100 per barrel. The SENSEX fell as much as 601 points and NIFTY50 index touched an intraday low of 24,138 dragged down by losses in index heavyweights like HDFC Bank, State Bank of India, Larsen & Toubro, Axis Bank and Reliance Industries.

As of 1:32 pm, the SENSEX was down 515 points at 77,329 and NIFTY50 index dropped 155 points to 24,171.

Here are stocks witnessing heavier than usual trading volumes:
Thermax: Shares of the heavy electrical equipment maker advanced as much as 13.79% to hit an intraday high of ₹4,759 after the company aid that it earned a net profit of ₹244 crore in January-March quarter, marking an increase of 11% from ₹206 crore in the same period last year.

The company's revenue from operations advanced 12.5% to ₹3,428 crore compared with ₹3,046 crore in the year-ago period.

The Pune-based company reported stable operational performance as its operating profit also known as Earnings Before Interest, Taxes, Depreciation, and Amortization (EBITDA) rose 22% to ₹374 crore and operating profit margin improved by 110 basis points to 10.92%.

The stock was witnessing higher than usual trading activity as volume jumped by 10 times to 20.57 lakh shares compared with an average volume of 2.06 lakh shares.

Sonata Software: Shares of the Bengaluru-based IT company rose as much as 13.72% to hit an intraday high of ₹307.90 after the company said that its net profit in January-March quarter jumped 4.22 times or 322% to ₹76 crore from ₹18 crore in the same period last year.

Its revenue from operations advanced 55% to ₹411 crore from ₹266 crore in the year-ago period.

"We won 2 large deals in Q4’26 and remain confident on Sonata’s growth momentum, by becoming the strategic partners to our clients to enable the AI modernization journey. We will continue to invest in AI capabilities and partnerships, to further accelerate our pivot to AI," said Rajsekhar Datta Roy, CEO-designate of Sonata Software.

The stock was witnessing higher than usual trading activity as volume jumped 21.6 times to 1.27 crore shares compared with an average of 5.91 lakh shares.

Lenskart Solutions: Shares of the eyewear retailer fell nearly 3% to ₹473.40 following a large trade in the block deal window in the morning.

According to a report by CNBC-TV18, as many as 11.22 crore shares, or 6.46% equity, worth ₹5,315.6 crore, changed hands at ₹473.4 per share.

Earlier on Thursday evening, CNBC-TV18 reported that certain existing investors in Lenskart were planning a clean-out trade through a block deal on Friday.

The proposed transaction initially involved the sale of up to 70.2 million shares worth nearly $350 million, but the deal size has now reportedly been increased to around $600 million (₹5,650 crore).

Trading volume jumped by 16 times to 4.28 crore shares compared with an average volume of 26 lakh shares.

Firstsource Solutions: Shares of the IT company jumped 18% to ₹278 after its net profit jumped 27% to ₹205 crore in March quarter from ₹161 crore in the year-ago period.

Trading volume jumped by 8.5 times to 5.92 crore shares compared with an average volume of 69.51 lakh shares.
