Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has expanded its partnership with Rolls-Royce, the British multinational specialising in civil and defence aerospace, services and power systems for a hydrogen fuel technology research programme.

In a stock exchange filing, Tata Consultancy Services said that the partnership will focus on advancing sustainable initiatives through research into hydrogen fuel system technology, further exploring the potential of hydrogen as a zero-carbon aviation fuel for the future.

The IT giant said that it will offer engineering skills and support to Rolls-Royce in addressing three challenges for enabling hydrogen in aviation: fuel combustion, fuel delivery, and fuel systems integration with the engine.

Alan Newby, director of research and technology at Rolls-Royce, said, “We welcome TCS to our hydrogen research programme and their engineering skills will play a valuable role in addressing our technology goals. We’ve already made great progress and having TCS with us gives us additional capability as we move forward on our journey to enable the energy transition for the aviation sector.”

TCS said that the partnership highlights the company’s commitment to driving sustainable transformation across industries, aligning with its broader mission to harness technology for positive societal impact.

Anupam Singhal, president - manufacturing, TCS, said, “This partnership is the perfect opportunity to put our technological strengths and passion for the environment to use for advancing innovation and fostering an eco-friendlier aerospace sector.”

The partnership was announced during the Farnborough International Airshow, where TCS also showcased its technological expertise in the aviation sector. TCS has been partnering with Rolls-Royce since 2010, contributing to areas such as design, manufacturing engineering, control systems, software after-market services, and IT solutions.

TCS shares opened lower at ₹4,299 per share and further dropped to an intraday low of ₹4,265, marking a decline of 0.56%. However, the IT stock recovered some of the losses to trade 0.3% lower at ₹4,289 apiece on the NSE at 3:00 pm.
