Tata Steel shares rise over 4%; stock gained over 12% in last six months, check details

Shares of Tata Steel, one of the leading global steel companies, gained as much as 4.31% to touch an intraday high of ₹174.74 apiece on Friday, October 3. At 11:34 AM, shares of Tata Steel were trading 3.75% higher at ₹173.81 per equity share on the National Stock Exchange (NSE).

The rise in the surge price comes after Bloomberg, citing a draft proposal, reported that the European Union is preparing to increase tariffs on steel imports and significantly lower the quota volumes before duties are imposed. This move could benefit Tata Steel Europe.

According to the draft, the tariff rate would rise to 50% “to minimise the risk of trade diversion.”

Earlier this week, on September 30, Tata Steel said in its press release that the Government of the Netherlands and the province of North Holland, Tata Steel and Tata Steel Nederland (“TSN”) have agreed on an intended framework for the integrated project in TSN and signed a non-binding Joint Letter of Intent (JLoI).

The JLoI is for the first phase of transition to low CO₂ steel production and to improve the healthy living environment around the IJmuiden site.

On August 28, Tata Steel announced a bonus of ₹303.13 crore for its employees for the financial year 2024-25, following the signing of a memorandum of settlement with the workers' union in Jamshedpur. The minimum bonus at full attendance, and the maximum bonus at actual attendance will be ₹39,004 and ₹3,92,213 for FY25, respectively, it added.

The stock touched its 52-week high of ₹174.44 on September 24, 2025 and its 52-week low of ₹122.62 on January 13, 2025. The company’s market capitalisation stands at ₹2,16,239.66 crore as recorded on October 3.

Tata Steel Q1 results

Tata Steel posted a 116.42% year-on-year (YoY) growth in its consolidated net profit to ₹2,078 crore in the June quarter of the 2025-26 financial year (Q1FY26). The firm clocked a profit of ₹960 crore in the corresponding quarter in the last fiscal year. However, the steel manufacturer's revenue from operations fell 3.37% YoY to ₹53,178 crore during the quarter under review, compared to ₹55,031 crore in the first quarter of FY25, it said in a regulatory filing.

At an operational level, the company's EBITDA (earnings before interest, tax, depreciation, and amortisation) stood at ₹7,427 crore in Q1FY26, jumping 6.8% YoY from ₹6,954 crore in the corresponding period a year ago. Its EBITDA margin expanded to 13.97% from 12.64% in Q1FY25.
