Shares of Tata Group companies, including Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), Tata Power Company, Tata Steel, and Tata Motors PV, among others, were under pressure, as N Chandrasekaran, the chairman of Tata Sons — the principal investment holding company of the $400-billion Tata Group — said he will not seek reappointment when his current term ends on February 20, 2027.
The development ends months of uncertainty over the leadership of the Tata Group's holding company.
The stock of Godrej Consumer Products declined as much as 10.7% to hit a 52-week low of ₹915.50 per equity share on the National Stock Exchange (NSE), as investors focused on the company’s outgoing Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Sudhir Sitapati’s sudden resignation months after the recent reappointment.
In his letter to the board, Sudhir Sitapati cited Godrej Consumer Products’ performance during his tenure and how the company has outpaced shareholders' return in comparison to the sectoral benchmark index Nifty FMCG.
On the ending note, Sudhir Sitapati said that he feels his task is done, and this provides the right time for the industry veteran to move on to something else.

The stocks of aluminium companies NALCO, Hindalco Industries, and Vedanta Aluminium Metal surged as much as 4%, 9% and 3%, respectively, on August 12, as Norsk Hydro ASA, a Norway-based aluminium and energy company, said on Tuesday that its Alunorte alumina refinery in Brazil has cut output to 50% of capacity.
The sharp reduction is due to a reduced supply of natural gas, propelling aluminium prices to a seven-week high.
The impact, as noted by news reports and analysts, is broadly positive for Indian aluminium producers because the disruption in Brazil could tighten global alumina supply and push aluminium prices higher. Aluminium prices have already moved to a seven-week high following the news.
Shares of TD Power Systems, the country's leading heavy electrical equipment maker, surged as much as 19% to hit a fresh 52-week high of ₹1,514.70 on the NSE a day after it reported June quarter earnings.
TD Power Systems, post market hours on Tuesday, said that its standalone net profit in the April-June period rose 79% to ₹86 crore from ₹48 crore in the same period last year.
The maker of power generators for turbines and engines said that its revenue from operations in the first quarter advanced 75% to ₹628 crore compared with ₹358 crore in the year-ago period.
The company reported strong operational performance as its EBITDA rose 86% to ₹121 crore and EBITDA margin improved by 110 basis points to 19.34%.
Ardee Industries stock made a robust stock market debut on Wednesday, August 12. Shares of the energy storage recycler listed at ₹72 apiece on the NSE, reflecting a premium of 35.8% over the initial public offering (IPO) issue price of ₹53 apiece. On the BSE, Ardee Industries stock started trading at ₹73.6, up 38.8% from the issue price.
Ardee Industries IPO lot size was 281 shares and cost ₹14,893 for retail investors. Investors who received Ardee Industries IPO allotment made ₹5,339 per lot, taking the value of their investment to ₹20,232, as per the listing price on the NSE.
