Stock market today: ACME Solar Holdings, MRF hit 52-week low, Biocon at 1-year high

Biocon, BSE shares hit 52-week high; MRF, ACME Solar Holdings at 52-week low

On Monday, January 20, the National Stock Exchange of India (NSE) saw 33 stocks hit 52-week highs and 49 hit 52-week lows.

The broader markets traded in the positive territory, with the NIFTY50 index gaining 143 points, or 0.6%, to 23,344 as of 2:15 pm. The SENSEX also rose 511 points, or 0.7%, to 77,131.

The volatility index, or India VIX, jumped 4.8% to 16.5. Among sectoral indices, NIFTY Bank and NIFTY PSU Bank were the biggest gainers were the biggest gainers, up around 1.8% and 2.31%, respectively. The NIFTY Auto index was the biggest loser, down 0.5%.

Here’s a look at the major stocks that touched their 52-week high and 52-week low on Monday, January 20:

Biocon Ltd (52-week high: ₹400.40)

Shares of Biocon Ltd gained over 2% to hit their 52-week high of ₹402.6 apiece on the NSE in morning trade on Monday. The stock has rallied for a third straight day and is up almost 18% in the past month. Over the last one year, it has surged a whopping 51%.

Biocon was in the news on Monday after its chairperson, Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw, demanded that India eliminate the tax on drugs for cancer treatment and chronic and rare diseases in its upcoming Union Budget 2025, which is expected early next month.

BSE Ltd (52-week high: ₹6,133.40)

Shares of BSE Ltd jumped 2.2% to hit their 52-week high of ₹6,133.40 apiece on the NSE. However, it later reversed its gains to trade in the negative territory. The stock is still up 7% in the past one month and a huge 181% in the past one year.

BSE shares have been in focus after multiple stock market analysts took a bullish stance on the company. Attractive valuations and the duopolistic nature of the exchange industry have made BSE stock a favourite among investors.

Other stocks that hit 52-week high: Apollo Micro Systems Ltd, Bajaj Healthcare Ltd, Ddev Plastiks Industries Ltd, Genesys International Corp. Ltd, Gujarat Apollo Industries Ltd, Orient Technologies Ltd, Renaissance Global Ltd and Stove Kraft Ltd, among others.

MRF Ltd (52-week low: ₹1,12,100)

Shares of leading tyre manufacturer MRF Ltd slipped 1.6% on Monday to hit their 52-week low of ₹1,12,100 apiece. The stock is down nearly 12% in the past month and 20% in the last one year.

MRF recently announced notable progress in the electric vehicle (EV) tyre segment. The company, the exclusive supplier of tyres for Indian defence aircraft and helicopters, said it was expanding its portfolio to include more aircraft and helicopters while exploring opportunities in export markets.

ACME Solar Holdings Ltd (52-week low: ₹213.25)

Shares of ACME Solar Holdings dropped as much as 3.7% to hit their 52-week low of ₹213.25 apiece on the NSE on Monday. The stock is down close to 8% in the past one month and 15% since its listing in November 2024 at ₹251 per share.

The recent correction has come amid a selloff in the broader markets after the stock price rallied in early January on announcements that the company has commissioned multiple solar projects in Rajasthan.

Other stocks that hit 52-week low: Bajaj Electricals Limited, Brainbees Solutions Limited, TTK Healthcare Limited, RBL Bank Ltd, 5Paisa Capital Ltd, Abans Holdings Ltd and Indo Farm Equipment Ltd, among others.
