Stock market live: Shriram Finance, Bharat Forge, SAIL hit 52-week high in the last trading session of 2025

NIFTY50 and SENSEX witnessed strong rebound today after range-bound trading in past several trading session. NIFTY50 index rose 214 points or 0.8% at 26,153, while the SENSEX is trading 629 points higher or 0.7% at 85,295 as of 1:05 pm on December 31.

Benchmark indices are trading firmly in the last trading session of the calendar year 2025 supported by rise in metal stocks after Indian government announced 12% import tariff for a three-years on ceratin steel products from April 21 2025. Import tariffs comes to curb import of cheap steel and aligned products from China, Vietnam and Nepal and other countries. As a result, NIFTY Metal index trades 1.8% higher, while JSW Steel and Tata Steel are trading 5% and 2.6% higher respectively.

Broader market indices like NIFTY Midcap100 (+1.2%) and NIFTY Smallcap100 (+1.0%) are also trading higher. More than 58 stocks hit their 52-week high on the NSE today, while 64 stocks hit their 52-week low.

The volatility index, or India VIX, is down 1.2% to 9.56. Among the key sectoral indices, NIFTY Oil & Gas (+2.5%), NIFTY Metal (+1.8%), and NIFTY PSU Bank (+1.6%) were the top gainers, while NIFTY IT (-0.02%) was sole sectoral loser today.
