Sona BLW Precision Forgings (Sona Comstar), on Saturday, announced the inauguration of its new manufacturing plant in the Fipasi Industrial Park located in Silao, Mexico aimed at meeting the growing demand for high-quality driveline solutions for battery electric vehicles (BEVs) in North America.

Sona Comstar primarily designs, manufactures, and supplies highly engineered, mission-critical automotive systems and components to automotive original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and is a supplier to the fast-growing global electric vehicle (EV) market.

The company said the new facility in Mexico will specialise in producing differential assemblies and reduction gears meticulously designed for BEVs. Over time, it will further diversify its product range to accommodate the evolving technological advancements in electric vehicles, the company said in an exchange filing.

The state-of-the-art facility in Mexico will be equipped with advanced manufacturing technologies, adhering to the highest quality and safety standards and this will significantly enhance the company’s production capabilities while creating numerous job opportunities, it said.

Vikram Verma, CEO of Driveline Business at Sona Comstar, said the company aims to solidify its position as the preferred driveline solutions provider for auto-makers in North America by establishing its new manufacturing plant in Mexico. The expansion aligns with the company’s long-term growth strategy to capitalise on the escalating electric vehicle (EV) demand, he said.

Last month, the company had announced it had reached two significant milestones. Sona Comstar said it manufactured 40 crore differential gears and 60 lakh differential assemblies.

Shares of the company have gained over 3.5% since the beginning of the year. The stock has risen over 46% in the last one year.
