NIFTY rebounds to settle above 24,300, SENSEX rises 1%: Check top gainers and losers

Gainers and Losers on August 9: Eicher Motors, ONGC, Tech Mahindra among top market movers

Indian benchmark indices SENSEX and NIFTY bounced back to close higher on Friday, August 9, after settling lower in the previous session. NIFTY50 rose over 1% to hit an intraday high of 24,419 points. The index closed at 24,367, up by 1.04%, or 250.5 points.

The 30-share SENSEX also closed in the green at 79,705 points, up by 819 points, or 1.04%. In intraday trade, the benchmark index hit a high of 79,984 points.

Out of the NIFTY50 constituents, 45 stocks closed in the green, 4 settled in the red, and one remained unchanged.

The NIFTY PSU Bank index emerged as the top gainer of all the sectoral indices, closing 1.92% higher. The NIFTY Media and NIFTY Auto index also closed in the green, up 1.83% and 1.72%, respectively.

Here’s a look at the top gainers and losers on Friday, August 9.

Eicher Motors, ONGC and Tech Mahindra emerge as top NIFTY gainers

Among the NIFTY50 constituents, Eicher Motors, ONGC, Tech Mahindra, Tata Motors and Shriram Finance came out as the top gainers.

Shares of Eicher Motors led the gains as the stock surged 6% to trade at an intraday high of ₹4,853 apiece on the NSE on the back of strong Q1FY25 results. The stock closed at ₹4,837 apiece, up by 5.68%. Eicher Motors also emerged as the top gainer on the NIFTY Auto index. The NIFTY Auto Index closed 1.72% higher.

Mahindra & Mahindra was the second biggest gainer among NIFTY50 constituents. The stock closed at ₹2,764.90 apiece, up by 3.05% on August 9. The stock emerged as the second biggest gainer on the NIFTY Auto index.

Shriram Finance was the third biggest gainer among NIFTY50 constituents. The stock closed at ₹2,955 apiece, up 2.88%. The stock emerged as the top gainer on the NIFTY Financial Services index, which closed 0.61% higher.

Shares of Tata Motors gained nearly 4% to trade at an intraday high of ₹1,082.95 apiece on the NSE. The stock closed 2.81% higher at ₹1,071 apiece and became the fourth biggest gainer on the NSE.

Tech Mahindra’s shares traded nearly 3% higher on the NSE to hit an intraday high of ₹1509.25 apiece. The stock was the fourth biggest gainer among constituents of the NIFTY index, closing at ₹1,505 apiece, 2.63% higher on the NSE.

ONGC, JSW Steel, State Bank of India, Hindalco Industries and HCL Tech were among the other gainers on the NIFTY50 index as they gained up to 2.62%.

HDFC Life, Kotak Bank and Sun Pharmaceuticals among top NIFTY50 losers

Only four constituents of the NIFTY50 index closed in the red on August 9.

HDFC Life emerged as the top loser among all NIFTY50 companies. The stock plunged over 1% to trade at an intraday low of ₹701.45 apiece on the NSE. The stock closed 1.09% lower at ₹702.6 apiece on the NSE.
Kotak Bank emerged as the second biggest loser among all NIFTY50 constituents. The stock dipped 0.43% to ₹1,765 apiece on the NSE. Kotak Mahindra Bank shares closed at ₹1,769.85 apiece, down 0.16%.

The other two losers among NIFTY50 constituents were Maruti Suzuki and Sun Pharma, which slipped up to 0.12% on August 9.
