NIFTY50, SENSEX today: Wall Street cues, FII activity, key things to know before markets open on October 28

The Indian equity markets are set to open higher on Tuesday, October 28, as indicated by GIFT NIFTY futures. NIFTY futures at GIFT City in Ahmedabad rose 39 points or 0.15% to 26,055 amid mixed cues from other Asian markets. The SENSEX and NIFTY50 indices resumed their rally on Monday after a pause in the previous session on the back of strong global cues. The benchmarks have surged in last seven out of eight sessions and during the course the SENSEX has advanced 3.35%.

Here are five things to know before market opens:

Asian markets

Asian markets retreated from record highs set on Monday as investors awaited earnings from technology majors such as Microsoft, Alphabet, Meta, Amazon and Apple due later this week.

Japan's Nikkei fell 0.33%, Hong Kong's Hang Seng rose 0.1%, South Korea's KOSPI fell 1.11%, China's Shanghai Composite declined 0.08% and Singapore's Straits Times advanced 0.52%.

Wall Street update

Overnight, US stocks extended their record-breaking run to Monday on expectation of a trade deal between United States and China.

US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said there’s “a framework” for President Donald Trump and Chinese leader Xi Jinping to discuss at their meeting, while Trump said, “We feel good” about working things out with China.

S&P 500 rose 1.2%, Dow Jones Industrial Average added 0.7% and tech heavy Nasdaq jumped nearly 2%. All the three indices set an all-time high for a second straight session.

FII/DII activity

Foreign institutional investors sold shares worth ₹55 crore on Monday while domestic institutional investors bought shares worth ₹2,492 crore, data from the National Stock Exchange showed.

The FIIs have so far this month bought shares worth ₹7,896 crore and for the calendar year they have been net sellers to the tune of ₹1,46,624 crore, according to the data from National Securities Depository Limited (NSDL).

Stocks to watch

Indus Towers: Telecom infrastructure firm Indus Towers posted a 17% decline in consolidated net profit to ₹1,839 crore in the second quarter ended September 30, 2025, due to pending dues from one of the large clients, according to the company filing.

Indus Towers during the reported quarter had a writeback of ₹195 crore in provision for doubtful receivables, aided by collections against past overdue.

The company had posted a net profit of ₹2,223.5 crore in the same period a year ago.

InterGlobe Aviation: Expanding its international network, IndiGo on Monday said it has commenced direct daily flights connecting Mumbai and London.

The services will be operated with leased Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners, and the first flight took off from Mumbai on Sunday, according to a release.

In recent months, the airline has launched flights to Copenhagen, Amsterdam and Manchester as well as resumed services to China on Sunday.

With a fleet of over 400 planes, the airline operates more than 2,200 daily flights.

PNB Housing Finance: PNB Housing Finance on Monday reported a 24% increase in its net profit to ₹582 crore for the second quarter ended September 2025.

The housing finance firm had earned a net profit of ₹470 crore in the same quarter of the previous year.

The company's total income for the quarter grew to ₹2,131 crore from ₹1,880 crore a year ago, PNB Housing Finance said in a regulatory filing.

Its interest income for the quarter was higher at ₹2,017 crore compared to ₹1,780 crore in the year-ago period.

The net interest income rose 14% to ₹765 crore against ₹669 crore in the year-ago quarter.

Indian Oil: State-owned Indian Oil Corporation Ltd (IOC) on Monday reported a multi-fold jump in its September quarter net profit on the back of higher refining margins and operational efficiencies.

Its standalone net profit was ₹7,610 crore in July-September - the second quarter of the 2025-26 fiscal year - compared with ₹180 crore earnings in the same period of the last year, according to company chairman Arvinder Singh Sahney.

"Net profit was higher mainly because of operational efficiencies and six-quarter high refining margins," he told reporters here.

The firm, which is in the midst of an operational efficiency programme implementation across verticals, saw crude oil processing rise 5% on the same capacity and fuel sales climbing 6% in the quarter.

Canara HSBC Life: Canara HSBC Life Insurance Company on Monday reported an 11% rise in net profit to ₹41 crore in the September quarter of the current fiscal.

The insurer had recorded a net profit of ₹37 crore in the year-ago quarter.

This is the first quarterly numbers after the listing of the insurance company on the bourses on October 17.

The total income of the insurance firm promoted by Canara Bank came down to ₹2,349 crore during the quarter under review, compared to ₹3,335 crore a year ago, Canara HSBC Life Insurance Company said in a regulatory filing.

Q2 earnings today

Q2 results season is on, and several companies will put out their earnings for the July-September quarter of the current fiscal year on Tuesday, October 28. They include two-wheeler manufacturer TVS Motor Company, renewable energy company Adani Green Energy, NBFC Tata Capital, steel producer Jindal Steel, grey cement maker Shree Cements, city gas distribution network Adani Total Gas, solar module manufacturer Premier Energies, financial services company Mahindra and Mahindra Financial Services and general insurer Go Digit General Insurance.
