On the Nifty Midcap 100 index, Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders cracked down 8.90%—the biggest losing stocks on the index.
The broader indices witnessed a broad-based selling amid the stock market crash on Monday, April 7, as investors were worried about trade war escalation and economic slowdown.
The Nifty Midcap 100 index declined 4.13% to the 48,553.50 level, while the Nifty Smallcap 100 gauge was trading at the 14,848.55 mark, plunging 5.28%.
During the opening session, Nifty Smallcap 100 was down 4.66%, and Nifty Midcap 100 slipped 4.66%.
US President Donald Trump’s tariff hikes and China’s retaliation have led to a rout in the global stock market.
Investor wealth got eroded by ₹18.68 lakh crore as the m-cap of BSE-listed firms dropped to ₹384.66 lakh crore from ₹403.34 lakh crore registered on Friday.
Among sectors, metal, IT, auto, and media were the worst-hit ones.
“Global growth is likely to face significant headwinds due to the non-linear yet intersecting trilemma of trade-related tariff barriers, rapid currency swings and fractured capital flows, with no country being immune to the disruptions... Factoring in the impact of trade wars, global GDP may see a downside of 30-50 bps in 2025..." World export volume may decline from 2.9% in 2024 to 1.3% in 2025-26,” the State Bank of India has said in a report.

Meanwhile, the BSE Midcap index is trading 3.81% down at the 38,963.97 level during intraday trade. During the session, it touched an intraday low of 37,203.21.
Punjab and Sind Bank, Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders, Bharat Forge, JSW Infrastructure and Zed Entertainment were the top losers, plunging as much as 9.61%.

On the Nifty Smallcap 100 index, Newgen Software Technologies (-9.80%) was the most affected scrip, followed by Garden Reach Shipbuilders, BEML, Anant Raj, Swan Energy and Tata Teleservices, falling as much as 9.06% during the intraday period.
The BSE Smallcap index crashed almost 5.5% during the intraday period.
Jindal Drillings, RGL, Lloyd SME, Embassy Developments and Genesys were the top losing scrips on BSE Smallcap, tanking as much as 13.05%.
