MCX shares declined nearly 7% to hit an intraday low of ₹3,252 on Wednesday, November 4.
Multi Commodity Exchange of India (MCX) shares tumbled around 7% during the trading session on Wednesday, November 4, as investors booked profits, exercising selling pressure after the company’s strong financial performance in the July to September quarter results for the financial year 2026-27.
NSE data showed that MCX shares declined nearly 7% to hit an intraday low of ₹3,252 apiece on Wednesday’s market, in comparison to ₹3,490.10 apiece at the previous stock market close.
Trading activity surpassing 3.8 million equity shares across NSE and BSE combined triggered the high-volume losses during the intraday session on November 4, amid the overall cautiously positive sentiment in the broader market.
The selling pressure comes after three consecutive days of buying sentiment in the capital market stock, as investors powered gains before the company announced its financial results for Q2 FY27.
The company’s stock reacted during Wednesday’s market as MCX filed its Q2 results with the exchanges after the trading session on Tuesday, November 3.
Q2 performance was strong, with significant growth in the company’s business and net profits in the September quarter due to the elevated market participation from investors in the commodity portfolio.
“This was driven by sustained growth across product segments, market participation, and ongoing efforts to broaden the product portfolio,” said Praveena Rai, Managing Director & CEO of MCX.
In the Q2 results, Multi Commodity Exchange of India recorded a 130% year-on-year (YoY) growth in the company’s consolidated net profit (attributable to owners) to ₹455 crore, in comparison to ₹197 crore in the corresponding quarter of the previous fiscal year.
MCX’s revenue from core operations advanced 113.6% YoY to hit ₹800 crore in the second quarter of FY27, from earlier ₹374 crore levels in the same quarter of the previous year, as per the exchange filing.
Along with the strong growth in revenues, the company’s overall expenses also increased by more than 40% due to the rising cost of product license fees, IT and tech expenses in the period under review.
“Average Daily Turnover (ADT) of Futures increased to ₹62,819 crore, and for Options it increased to ₹12,00,129 crore,” the company said an official statement.
MCX’s operating profit or earnings before interest, tax, depreciation, and amortisation (EBITDA), excluding other income, improved nearly 151% YoY to ₹611 crore in Q2 FY27, compared to ₹244 crore in the same period a year earlier.
On the margins front, MCX’s EBITDA margins expanded to 76.4%, from earlier 65.1% levels a year ago.
After reviewing the Q2 fine print, analysts from US-based investment firm Jefferies said that options trading remains the key growth driver for MCX in the July to September period, contributing around 76% of the overall transaction revenue of the company.
“Jefferies forecasts 25% earnings CAGR over three years, supported by strong revenue growth and margin expansion,” said the analysts.
The experts also said that MCX’s dominance in the commodity exchange category supports the overall growth outlook for the economy, while the competition factor combined with regulatory changes in the country remains a key risk headwind for the company.
NSE data also showed that MCX shares have delivered 50% returns to investors on a year-to-date (YTD) basis, around 2.9% gains in the last one-month, and 3.7% returns on their investments in the last five market sessions.
On a longer-term basis, the company’s stock has rallied over 828% in the last five years, gained more than 547% in the last three years, and delivered around 76% returns on investment in the past one year, as per the exchange data.
The company’s market capitalisation (m-cap) was at ₹84,409 crore as of the trading session on Wednesday, November 4, 2026.
