L&T’s transportation infrastructure business vertical secured major design and build orders for two key systems packages of the Dhaka Mass Rapid Transit Development Project (Line 1), that is Dhaka Metro, in Bangladesh.
The order includes Contract Package CP09—track works and electrical systems and Contract Package CP10—signalling, telecommunications and platform screen doors (PSD). This will be the first underground metro project in Bangladesh.
Under CP09, L&T, along with its Japanese partner Sumitomo Corporation, will undertake the design, procurement, installation, testing and commissioning of the complete track works, power supply & distribution system, traction substations, overhead catenary system and associated electrical facilities across the corridor.
Under CP10, the company will execute the signalling, telecommunication and platform screen door for the entire network.
In a regulatory filing, L&T said that the Dhaka Metro Line 1 project, funded by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), will provide a modern mass transit system spanning approximately 31 km. It includes the Airport Route from Kamalapur to Airport and the Purbachal Route from Natun Bazar to Purbachal Terminal, with 19 stations and a depot at Pitalganj.
Commenting on this, Ramkumar S, Senior Executive Vice President & Head—Transportation Infrastructure, L&T, said, "The repeat orders from Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL) are a testament to L&T’s capabilities in delivering large scale, integrated urban transit projects globally. With a strong track record of delivering E&M systems for the Dhaka Metro Line 6 with the highest standards of quality and timely execution, and more recently, for the Jakarta Metro, which is under execution, we are well positioned to leverage our experience in seamlessly integrating multiple systems in close coordination with OEMs and stakeholders.”
The transportation infrastructure vertical of L&T is a leading EPC player, which has delivered some of the most complex rail infrastructure projects in India and international markets.
The company’s consolidated revenue could rise about 10% YoY to between ₹74,810 crore and ₹75,110 crore, driven by steady execution of its order book across segments. L&T reported consolidated revenue of ₹67,942 crore in the previous quarter and ₹67,984 crore in the September quarter of FY26.
However, L&T’s profitability and margins may come under some pressure, as geopolitical headwinds have affected project execution, especially in the West Asia region. Net profit is likely to remain flat on a yearly basis. L&T reported a net profit of ₹3,926 crore in Q2FY26 and ₹4,123 crore in the previous quarter.
Shares of L&T jumped 1% to touch an intraday high of ₹3,713.50 apiece on Tuesday. At 11:25 AM, the stock was trading at ₹3,693.10 apiece on the National Stock Exchange, rising 0.36%.
From the beginning of the year, L&T shares have slipped 11%. Over a month’s time, the stock has lost 2%, while for a six-month period, it has fallen 9%.
Shares of the firm had hit a 52-week high of ₹4,440 on February 24, 2026, and a 52-week low of ₹3,288.10 on March 23, 2025.
