The Indian equity benchmarks staged a strong performance in the first quarter of the current financial year, with the NIFTY50 index rising 8.5% in the April-June period after falling 0.53% in the previous quarter.
The strong performance in the June quarter came after US President Donald Trump announced a 90-day ban on reciprocal tariffs in April, value buying at lower levels and foreign institutional investors buying shares in the Indian markets.
Mutual funds were also consistently buying shares in the Indian markets as inflows in equity mutual funds came in at ₹66,853 crore in the June quarter. The mutual funds raised their stake in 22 companies in the NIFTY 500 index, data from Ace Equities showed.
Mutual funds raised their stakes in Capri Global Capital to 6.17% in Q1 from 1.65% in the previous quarter. Quant Mutual Fund's Quant Small Cap Fund is the prominent investor in Capri Global Capital, with a 5.96% shareholding in the company as per data on the BSE.
Jaiprakash Power Ventures is also witnessing consistent buying by mutual funds, as they held a 0.3% stake in the company at the end of the June quarter, up from 0.17% in the same period last year.
As per data on the BSE, 15 mutual funds own a stake in the company. The stock has also been witnessing buying interest after reports suggested that the Adani Group had emerged as the lead bidder to acquire Jaiprakash Associates Ltd. (JAL), which is undergoing insolvency proceedings, with a bid of up to ₹12,500 crore.
One97 Communications, the parent of payment services provider Paytm, has also seen mutual funds raise their stake in the company to 13.86% from the 6.8% stake they held in the same quarter last year. 33 mutual funds, including Mirae Asset Mutual Funds, Motilal Oswal Mutual Funds, Nippon Mutual Funds and Bandhan Mutual Funds, own Paytm shares in their portfolios.
Sobha, Eternal and Sundram Fasteners were among the companies where mutual funds owned more than a 20% stake. At the end of the June quarter, mutual funds owned a 23.19% stake in real estate developer Sobha, 21.59% in Eternal, formerly known as Zomato, and 20.32% in Sundaram Fasteners.

On the other hand, mutual funds held a 0.11% and 0.12% stake in Trident and Rashtriya Chemicals and Fertilisers.
Among the blue-chip stocks, mutual funds raised their stake in Hindustan Unilever to 6.57% at the end of Q1 from 5.58% in the year-ago period. As many as 50 mutual funds own a stake in Hindustan Unilever, with SBI NIFTY 200 Quality 30 ETF and ICICI Prudential Mutual Fund collectively owning a 3.14% stake in the company.
