BHEL share price surges over 3% on ₹11,800 crore thermal power EPC order in Chhattisgarh

BHEL share price: State-run engineering and manufacturing major Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd shares climbed more than 3% on Friday after the company bagged a ₹11,800 crore order for engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) of a thermal power plant in Chhattisgarh.

The stock rose as much as 3.42% to ₹221.3 apiece on the National Stock Exchange (NSE). At 11:35 am, it was up 2.78% to ₹219.92 per share.

In an exchange filing, the company said that it has received a letter of intent (LoI) from Chhattisgarh State Power Generation Company Ltd for an EPC package of a 2x660 megawatt (MW) supercritical thermal power plant at Hasdeo Thermal Power Station in Korba district.

The domestic order is for the supply of supercritical equipment such as boiler, turbine, generator and related auxiliaries; erection and commissioning works; and civil works.

The timeframe to execute the order is 60 months.

The promoter and promoter group companies have no interest in the electricity company that awarded the contract, and the order does not fall within related party transactions.

Last week, BHEL had bagged an order worth ₹7,500 crore from Gujarat State Electricity Corporation Ltd for an EPC package for 1x800 MW Ukai Extn Unit No 7 TPS in Gujarat's Tapi district.

In February, it received a ₹6,700 crore order from Singareni Collieries Company Ltd for EPC work of 1x800 MW Singareni Stage-II project in Telangana.

Bharat Heavy Electricals had posted a 124.5% jump in its consolidated net profit to ₹134.7 crore in the third quarter of the financial year 2024-25, compared to a ₹60 crore post-tax profit in the corresponding period last fiscal.

Revenue from operations advanced 32.3% to ₹7,277.1 crore in the quarter ended December 2024, as against ₹5,504 crore a year back.

Earnings before interest, tax, depreciation, and amortisation (EBITDA) grew 40% year-on-year (YoY) to ₹304 crore, while margin rose 30 basis points (bps) to 4.2% in Q3 FY25 from 3.9% in the year-ago period.
