Trading holiday on May 28: NSE, BSE to remain shut on Tuesday for Bakri Id; check holiday in June

SUMMARY

While the MCX will be closed for its morning session from 9 am to 5 pm on Thursday, May 28, it will reopen for the evening session from 5 pm to 11:30/11:55 pm.

Stock Market holiday on May 28: The Indian stock exchanges, including the National Stock Exchange (NSE) and BSE, will be closed on Thursday, May 28, 2026, on the occasion of Bakri Id.

The bourses will resume trading on Friday, May 29.

This is the second trading holiday in May. The exchanges were also closed on May 1 for Maharashtra Day.

Stock market holidays in June 2026

In the month of June, the stock market will observe a trading holiday on Friday, June 26, on account of Muharram.

However, there are no stock market holidays in July. Furthermore, this year, India’s Independence Day, August 15, falls on a Saturday.

The next market holiday falls on September 14, as the exchanges will remain shut on Monday on account of Ganesh Chaturti.

Will MCX be open or closed on May 28?

Furthermore, the Multi-Commodity Exchange (MCX) will be partially closed on May 28.

While the domestic commodity exchange will be closed for its morning session from 9 am to 5 pm, it will reopen for its evening session from 5 pm to 11:30/11:55 pm.

The MCX also observed partial closure on May 1 for Maharashtra Day.

Bank holidays on May 28

Banks across all the major Indian cities, excluding Bhubaneswar, Gangtok, Ghuwati, and Itanagar, will observe a holiday on May 28 for Bakri ID (Id-Uz-Zuha).

Furthermore, bank branches in Guwahati, Jammu, Kochi, Srinagar, and Thiruvananthapuram are shut today, on May 27, on account of Eid-UI-Adha-(Bakri-Eid)/Id-ul-Zuha (based on the region), according to the Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI’s) holidays matrix.
