The proposed initial share sale is only a fresh issuance of 27 crore shares, as per the DRHP. The firm may raise around ₹37,700 crore from the offer, according to reports.

The money generated will be utilised for debt clearance of material subsidiary, Reliance Jio Infocomm, and for general corporate purposes.

As the IPO is just days away, here's a look at its strengths and risks from the DRHP.

Jio Platforms IPO: Key strengths

  • Jio Platforms, in its IPO papers, said that it is built on a vertically integrated proprietary technology stack and core capabilities across network, software, device engineering and operating systems and applications.
  • Jio Platforms is at the forefront of the digital transformation in India. It has invested in new technologies to offer customers a differentiated value proposition, leading to more customer engagement and growing use cases of digital services for cloud gaming, streaming, cloud computing and AI.
  • The company said that innovation drives multiple aspects of its business, leading to efficient operations, reduced time-to-market for its products, and optimised network planning, rollout and real-time performance management. For pan-India operations and access ecosystem, it uses the decentralised 'fractal' method. For network roll-out planning, the firm has created a 'digital twin' of its network such as equipment, fibre infrastructure, towers and buildings and establishments in network coverage area.
  • The company believes that it is uniquely positioned to unlock Digital India's true potential. According to the Analysys Mason Report, Jio Platforms' extensive pan-India reach and large and highly engaged customer base, along with a multi-layered access ecosystem, allow it to provide access to proprietary and third-party digital services to its consumers in India compared to other players in the country.

Jio Platforms: A look at risk factors

  • Jio Platforms' material subsidiary, Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd (RJIL), holds telecommunications licences and spectrum across various bands which are important for its operations. Any inability to renew or maintain them could impact business.
  • If the company is unable to respond to changes in technology and evolving demands of its customers, it may face technological obsolescence.
  • The company does not control the use of the 'Jio' trademark by Reliance Group firms. This exposes it to risks from negative publicity resulting from actions beyond its control.
  • Any cybersecurity, data or privacy breach could affect its operations and have an adverse effect on its brand, reputation, business, financial condition and results of operations.
  • There are outstanding legal proceedings involving the firm, subsidiaries, promoter, directors and key managerial personnel. Adverse outcomes in any of these proceedings may affect business, financial condition and results of operations.
