India’s domestic air passenger traffic stood at 140.44 lakh in February 2025, jumping 11.04% year-on-year (YoY) from 126.48 clocked in the corresponding period last year, according to the monthly traffic data by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).
As per the DGCA data, IndiGo topped the chart, transporting a total of 89.40 lakh passengers with a market share of 63.70% in February 2025. Trailing IndiGo was the Tata-owned Air India group which flew 38.30 lakh passengers and chipped away 27.30% of market share.
In October 2024, Air India completed the consolidation of its airline business with AIX Connect merging into Air India Express. A month later, on October 11, Vistara merged with Air India.
The two other major carriers SpiceJet and Akasa Air transported 6.59 lakh and 4.54 lakh passengers, respectively, in February 2025.
While Akasa's market share stood at 4.7%, SpiceJet's share in the total domestic passenger traffic was 3.2%, as per the data.
Shares of IndiGo closed in the red at ₹5,044.05 apiece, down 0.84% on the National Stock Exchange (NSE) on Friday, March 21. However, the scrip gained 7.30% over the week and 12.66% on a month-to-date basis.
Spicejet shares also settled in the negative territory at ₹47.98, down 1.15% on the NSE. It rose 5.50% in the span of a week and 4.51% since the beginning of March. However, it lost 13.39% on a year-to-date basis.
