India ranks 10th in terms of the contribution of its travel and tourism sector to GDP, which accounts for 6.8% of the total, roughly ~$200 billion. Furthermore, from 2018 to 2028, this contribution is projected to grow at an annual rate of approximately 7.1%. New schemes focusing on tourism, infrastructure improvement, and private investment aim to enhance the experience for tourists, which would subsequently grow the industry.

Did you know? E-car sales have declined for two consecutive quarters!

In Q3CY24, electric passenger vehicle sales took a hit, decreasing 3.4% YoY. The year actually started off strong, with Q1 sales hitting 25,522 units, a massive 50.8% growth compared to last year. Q2 held steady at 22,858 units, though it did drop by 10.4% from Q1. By Q3, sales declined further to 20,302 units.

However, despite the slowdown, total sales for the first three-quarters of CY24 are up by 15.4% compared to the same period in CY23.

A major reason for the decline - removal of the FAME subsidy and the overhang of a new renewed subsidy. While one has increased the cost of acquisition, the latter has led to an overhang - basically causing consumers to delay purchase, as they await a new subsidy.
