SUMMARY

If one employer’s TDS doesn’t reflect in your Form 26AS yet, you can still claim it. In case the IT department asks you for proof later, you can submit Form 16.

ITR file missing salary, two employers income not showing

If both employers have given you deductions like HRA, standard deduction, etc., you need to calculate correctly, as you can claim them only once.

If you changed jobs within the previous financial year (2024-25) and the Income Tax website is not reflecting your salary information for both jobs, you need to fill in the details manually.

The ITR filing process is fairly automated. The e-filing portal already has most of the information pre-filled, and you just need to verify and confirm the details, except for some sections (like capital gains, where you have to fill in manually). In some cases, the portal might not have complete information, and you need to provide details yourself.

Salaried individuals get Form 16 from their employers, which is a TDS certificate depicting the total amount of salary paid to the employee and the tax deducted at source on the salary. If you changed jobs, you must have received two Form 16s.

At times, more than one Form 16 leads to confusion and complications, as some details might be missing. Further, some tax exemptions or deductions may have been calculated more than once.

Sometimes, one employer may not have filed the TDS return yet, so the IT portal doesn’t show the salary details for that job. However, you are still legally required to declare all income.

If you changed jobs and the IT portal has missing details, here is how you can do it manually:

  • Download Form 16 from both employers, and keep Form 26AS and AIS/TIS handy while filing the ITR to cross-check reported income and TDS.

  • Choose the correct ITR form.
  • In the ‘Income Details’ section, you have to enter salary details from both of your employers. Add up the salary income from both jobs by checking Form 16.

  • In the TDS section, enter the TDS deducted by both employers as per Form 16.

  • If both employers have given you deductions like HRA, standard deduction, etc., you need to calculate correctly, as you can claim them only once.

  • File ITR with accurately calculated income and TDS.
Note: If one employer’s TDS doesn’t reflect in your Form 26AS yet, you can still claim it. In case the IT department asks you for proof later, you can submit Form 16.
Entering correct salaries and other details is important in order to avoid scrutiny, notices and penalisation from the IT department. Even if some details are missing in your Form 26AS or AIS, you need to make sure that you’re manually entering the details by cross-checking the documents and reaching accurate calculations.
